WEEKENDS ON THE GLITZY GOLD COAST… ☀️🌊🌴

What a strange and fascinating concept this place is…

The most extraordinary Australian coastline… fresh, crisp white sand, crystal-clear water at the most gorgeous temperature, pandanus framing the ocean and those endless blue skies.

Then you look along the horizon… and suddenly these enormous towers rise straight out of the coastline. Nature meeting architecture on a scale that feels almost surreal.

It made me think about home on the Mornington Peninsula and how lucky we are to live amongst our beautiful flora and fauna… our earthy buildings, rugged coastline, untouched pockets of bushland, parks and gardens that still feel connected to the landscape.

The Gold Coast feels completely different… manicured, curated, polished and very man-made. Beautifully done, absolutely… but perhaps just a little overdone for HB & I.

Still, there is something rather fabulous about dipping your toes into the glitz for a weekend… enjoying that incredible ocean, looking up at those towers and taking it all in.

The glitzy Gold Coast… you are certainly one of a kind. ✨🌊

A morning in Byron Bay… 🌊☀️

Checking out the coastline… checking out a little real estate… and, of course, checking out what is happening in the world of gardens, architecture and design in this beautiful part of the world.

Wandering around with Louella, HB and Lewis the dog… soaking up the colours, the landscape, the incredible turquoise water and plenty of inspiration along the way. Even lucky enough to spot a whale putting on a show. 🐋

What a beautiful way to say goodbye to winter… a little taste of Byron Bay life, sunshine on our faces and dreaming of perhaps spending a little more time up this way. 💙

Byron… you are rather fabulous. 🌴🌊✨

There is only one way to choose materials… you have to feel them. And apparently there was only one way to get there… in Louella’s Jeep! 😂

Rocking up to the incredible Antique and Encaustic Tiles with Louella and HB today, hunting for the perfect handmade tiles for our project in Tasmania.

Nothing perfectly manufactured here… just beautiful, authentic, handmade pieces full of texture, wonky edges, variations in colour and the marks of the hands that made them. Exactly what I love.

For me, choosing materials cannot be done from a photograph or a sample on a screen. You need to pick them up… touch them… turn them over… see how the light hits them and imagine how they are going to feel within the space.

And I think we may have found something pretty bloody special for Tassie… 🧡

Brunswick Heads… wow.

There is something so beautifully individual about this place. Everywhere you look there is this eclectic mix of recycled materials, collected objects, old tiles, art, plants and treasures gathered from all around the world.

These are not just houses… they feel like personal shrines. Homes decorated with the things people love, layered with history, humour, creativity and wonderfully eccentric imagery. Nothing feels too considered or too perfect… and that is exactly what makes it so special.

Then there are the people… warm, welcoming, chatting in the streets, completely comfortable in their own little piece of paradise.

And amongst it all, the incredible Australian landscape doing its thing… banksias flowering, subtropical gardens spilling onto the streets and that beautiful winter sunshine.

HB & I keep looking at each other thinking… we could absolutely spend our winter months here.

A little work… a lot of inspiration… and the most beautiful company. ☀️

We have escaped to Brunswick Heads for the weekend, mixing a little work with pleasure… selecting tiles for one of our projects in Tasmania, soaking up inspiration and spending time with our gorgeous friend Louella.

There is something so special about this part of the world… the old houses, incredible gardens, vintage cars, salty air and that golden northern NSW light. Everywhere you look there is another colour, texture or little detail to take home with you.

And of course… Louis right in the middle of it all. 🐾

What a beautiful place to land for a few days… feeling very lucky. 🧡

Brunswick Heads… you are rather gorgeous.

So incredibly sad to hear of the passing of Yayoi Kusama at 97… one of the true creative forces of our lifetime.

I feel so fortunate that HB and I have been able to stand inside her extraordinary worlds and experience the absolute joy, madness, colour and infinity of her imagination.

Kusama never simply made art… she created entire universes. She showed us what it meant to have a completely individual visual language and to pursue it relentlessly for an entire lifetime. She continued painting until her final days.

As an artist and designer, that fearlessness has always spoken to me… the repetition, the scale, the colour, the dots, the obsession and the complete refusal to be anything other than herself.

What an extraordinary legacy to leave behind.

Vale Yayoi Kusama… 1929–2026. 🟡🟡🟡

Forever infinite.

Tiny courtyards can have BIG personality… 🌵✨

It is all about connecting the garden back to the interior …. the colours, textures, finishes and forms flowing from inside to out.

For me, simplicity in the palette is key. Choose beautiful smaller plants that actually want to live in a smaller space. Plants that hold their form, thrive, stay relatively low maintenance and do not need to be hacked back every five minutes because they have outgrown the courtyard.

There is absolutely no need to plant something ginormous just for impact… there are so many fabulous plants that will give you drama, texture and sculptural form without taking over.

A little courtyard… a simple palette… and, of course, a little bit of CHD wow factor. 🌵💚

Growing up with Dolly… ✨

What an icon. What a woman. What an inspiration.

For as long as I can remember, Dolly has been there. Over my 50 years, I have watched this extraordinary woman live her dream completely on her own terms.

From an early age, I was so attracted to her world… the hair, the clothes, the colour, the glamour, the humour… her style was so potent. But more than anything, it was the way she simply owned who she was. She created her own world and lived her life exactly the way she wanted to.

Growing up, that was a huge inspiration to me. It showed me that you could be different, dream big, create your own style, follow your own path and decide for yourself how you wanted to live and be perceived.

Dolly showed me that being different could be your greatest strength.

Still an icon… still inspiring… still completely Dolly. 💛✨ rest in peace my dear friend…

CHD IS HIRING… 🌵

We are looking for a new team member to join our succulent nursery in Balnarring.

This is a hands-on role for someone who genuinely loves plants, enjoys working outdoors and is not afraid of getting their hands dirty. You will be working amongst our beautiful collection of succulents, cacti and architectural plants, helping with everything from propagation and potting to nursery maintenance, preparing plants for our landscaping projects and keeping the nursery looking its very best.

We are looking for someone who is hardworking, reliable, organised and, most importantly, a great team player. Experience with plants or horticulture would be wonderful, but a genuine passion to learn and become part of the CHD family is just as important.

This is a very special little nursery and we would love to find the right person to become part of its next chapter.

If this sounds like you, or you know somebody who would be perfect, please send us a message and tell us a little about yourself.

Come grow with us… 🌵🌿

SANCTUM… FROM THE INSIDE, OUT.

Continuing our journey with Matt and Esen at Sanctum Private Hospital here in Mornington…

For me, the landscape at Sanctum cannot simply begin when you walk out the door. It needs to be felt from the moment you enter the building.

These consulting rooms are a beautiful example of what we are trying to capture. The interior palette is quiet, warm and incredibly considered… stone, soft greys, earthy neutrals and natural textures. Beyond the glass, that same language continues into the landscape.

We are sculpting an Indigenous Mornington Peninsula landscape around the architecture… using the plants, textures, movement and colours that belong to this part of the world, creating the feeling that the building has been gently placed within a landscape that was always there.

Sanctum is being created as more than a private hospital. It is about changing the experience of entering a medical environment… creating somewhere that feels calm, nurturing, private and connected to nature.

From the consulting rooms, the garden becomes part of the room itself. The architecture frames it almost like a living artwork… sky, foliage, movement and changing light.

Working alongside Matt and Esen, our aim is for there to be no obvious point where the interior finishes and the landscape begins.

One palette… one feeling… one Sanctuary.

That, to me, is what Sanctum should feel like. 🤍🌿
