Good morning everyone. Here we have a VE Commodore ECU E69. It is becoming more common to see these burn complete holes through the board because of a capacitor failure. These ECU’s are no longer available new. So what do you do if this happens to you? Well there are two solutions. You could purchase a reconditioned ECU or purchase a secondhand one from the wreckers. Reconditioned usually comes with warranty but wreckers are pot luck at a quarter of the price. What then as these can’t be just plugged into your vehicle and expect it to start. The next step is to have it programmed. Once again there are two solutions. We can download the latest flash files, VIN and calibration files. Then we write them to the donor ECU through the OBD port. You will then need two new keys as the microchips are locked to the original ECU. The problem doing it this way is that the ECU is licensed and if it is faulty, (warranty or not from supplier) the process still needs to be paid for. You also risk burning two new keys. The second solution is that we can remove the eEprom and chip that contains the flash file. We then read and save these files and they can be written back on bench as many times as it’s needed if the donor ECU turns out to be faulty. There is no licensing involved with this process. Also there is the benefit of not needing two new keys as this is considered a type cloning process. We have done this both ways with multiple successful outcomes. We also are able to do on bench cloning if the board hasn’t completely stopped communicating. Please note however, even though we offer this service, you will be required to source /purchase your own ECU from a supplier of your choice.

How long should a car key last? Well that depends on how often it is used, how many times you drop it and how many washing cycles it has been through. But seriously they should last approximately 10 years. After this time the remote may become harder to lock or unlock from a distance. The battery in your key will start draining quicker than expected. This could be from one year and some severe causes the battery could go flat in weeks. Please note battery drainage can also be caused from storing keys to close to the vehicle, the remote buttons beings pressed while in your pocket/bag or storing keys near microwaves or wireless chargers. Also the mechanical part of the transponder key after ten years will be worn and causing damage to your ignition. This will be evident with it working in your ignition but not your doors. Your door lock isn’t used because of the remote and shows the damage your key has done to the ignition. The next question is, how often do you replace your phone or computer? Car keys are basically a micro computer that communicates with your vehicle. Car keys should be replaced once the above symptoms start to show. The last thing you want is your only key to stop working. In some cases it can cost thousands to replace when no keys work.

Hi everyone, tomorrow only, 25th, come and get your key safe and one standard (LW4/5) house key for $95. The German quality Abus 787 Garage key safe holds approximately 15 keys depending on size and key tags. It has a four wheel combination that lights up at night for convenience and a dust cover to protect the combination mechanism. Can be fixed to timber or brick surfaces. Internal dimensions as 60mm x 96mm and will hold standard RFID cards or tags as well. A key safe is cheaper than a lockout after hours.

Well now I have seen everything. This was the result from a repairer after a body control module had failed. In cases like this, a repair is unlikely to be a permanent solution, once more, this repair wasn’t done correctly and failed after a few weeks. What we were able to do was find a second hand BCM and clone the security information from the original to donor BCM. This made the replacement plug and play. Sometimes the cheap option ends up costing twice as much.

The locks we sell are from reputable brands that suit the industry standards, allowing us to key them alike, master key them, fit restricted systems and duplicate extra keys if needed. With the influx of cheap locks from China, it is getting increasingly difficult to cut keys and do basic locksmithing tasks due to their lack of quality control. So before buying a no name lock, come in and see us, we can even supply our own locksmith branded locks that are for those on a budget but still are of quality.
