Bear Cottage Cup ends in a draw with over $3,500 raised

Avalon’s Over 45 division 2 teams played out a hard-fought draw on Saturday in an entertaining game at Careel Bay. But whilst the teams shared the cup the real winner was Bear Cottage as the teams managed to top $3,500 for this year’s event.

🙏 🙏 🙏 Thanks to the Avalon community, players and friends, all money raised will help provide respite and end-of-life care for children with terminal illnesses and their families.

Even though the teams are mates off the field, all friendships were on hold for the 90-minute game as the tackles flew in from all directions. It was an end-to-end game played at a fast pace considering all players are aged in their 40s, 50s and 60s!

Avalon’s B team, playing in red, struck midway through the first half with a curling corner by midfield maestro Gerry Forde, which flew just inside the far post. It was a superb goal. The B team had their backs to the wall for the remainder of the half as the A team, playing in white, piled forward with many darting runs by ex-premier league striker Brad McNicol and his strike partner, Paul Wood.

The pressure continued after the break and the A team were rewarded for their efforts in the 60th minute when Jamie Pullen set up Paul Wood for the equaliser. It remained 1-1 but the B team almost snatched a win in the 89th minute when Ant Ritchie’s shot flew over the bar.

After the game the Bear Cottage Cup was shared and it now resides at Avalon Brewery, who has sponsored the B team for the last few years. Brown Brothers Skip Bins provided the shirts for the A team on the day.

A truly great cause 👍

On Sunday at 4pm, Avalon Soccer Club's O45 Div 2 team will play its annual charity game against Manly Vale Football Club at Careel Bay 🥰

They're fundraising for Bear Cottage, the only children’s hospice in NSW - a very special place that’s dedicated to caring for children with life-limiting conditions.

This charity game has been a fixture for over a decade and in that time, $12,000 has been raised for Bear Cottage.

It's a great time to head up to Careel Bay, bring a deck chair, a coldie or two (the weather forecast looks good!) and give whatever you can spare for this very worthwhile cause - the teams are aiming to raise $2,000 on Sunday!

Your contribution may help to make a child’s remaining life a little more comfortable, or it could help fulfil a dream.

At the very least, you’ll get to giggle at a bunch of aging men pretending that they're 18 years old again!

Heat your pool with Pool Nerds and Madimack!

Out with the old, in with the new!

This customer in Balmain, NSW wanted a complete new pool filtration system to replace the old one. It needed to be plumbed in a compact area and enclosed in a new acoustic friendly filter box.

The new system included a new hi-rate filter with glass media for ultimate filtering, a Bionizer sanitisation system for clean & healthy chlorine free water and a 5-star eco pump for the most energy efficient and ultra-quiet usage.

One of the latest pool builds involving Pool Nerds...

This new pool in Chatswood, NSW is currently in the process of being built. The owners have great taste! They've specified charcoal porcelain tiles; dual multi-coloured lights; swim jets; a waterfall; energy-saving eco pumps and a Bionizer - the healthy, low-chemical, low power alternative to chlorine and salt pools. More photos to come when it's all done and dusted!

Plumbing and system supplied & installed by Pool Nerds, in partnership with Riteway Pools. The builder is DG Constructions.
