Some buildings make you excited about what they could become.
Today, we’re revisiting an adaptive reuse project completed two years ago: the transformation of a former postal depot in Nundah.
When we first inspected the building, its potential was clear: great bones, exposed concrete walls and a structure full of character. Projects like this capture what we love about adaptive reuse. They offer an opportunity to recognise the value in an existing building and help it begin its next chapter.
Working with our client, we transformed the former postal delivery driveway into a laneway between the depot and the neighbouring heritage listed former telephone exchange. Once a service space, it became a welcoming entrance to the refurbished offices on the upper floor, while creating an opportunity for outdoor dining for a future café or restaurant in the heritage building.
Looking back at the completion photographs, this project still reflects something we care deeply about: retaining character, finding new possibilities and giving existing places a future.

7 Zupp Drive is taking shape, with construction now progressing beyond Level 3 at the Interciti Commercial Precinct in Ormeau.
Designed as the precinct’s fourth building, the development responds to its challenging triangular site and six-metre cross fall through three distinct volumes that fan across the site and step with the terrain.
Flexible floor plates, a centralised core and adaptable tenancy configurations support a range of future occupants, while rooftop solar, rainwater reuse and battery storage contribute to its long-term environmental performance.
It is exciting to see the design come to life. We look forward to sharing more as construction continues.

Our Brisbane team recently completed a time management course facilitated by Flourish Consultancy, exploring strategies to prioritise effectively, work with greater focus and make purposeful use of their time.

This was a particularly rewarding day for Masha, attending her first site visit for a project she had prepared the documentation for from the very beginning.

DesignInc Brisbane Director Grant Hinds on site with Manu Weerasinghe, Structural Engineering Lead at Jabin, enjoying the sunshine at the Mourilyan Silica Sands Project, located south-southeast of Cairns.

The project is a high-purity silica flour processing mine and facility, located approximately 100km south-southeast of Cairns and 30km south of Innisfail. The site is well positioned near key infrastructure, including the Bruce Highway and Mourilyan Harbour.

Silica plays an important role in a range of industrial and advanced manufacturing applications, including the production of silicon-based materials. It is exciting to be involved in a project connected to such an important resource sector.

As Managing Director of DesignInc Brisbane, and the current National Chair of the DesignInc group, I’m genuinely privileged to work alongside so many remarkable women. On Friday, I had the opportunity to spend time with our national leadership group, and it was inspiring to see the strength, clarity and creativity our female directors bring to every studio across the country. Their leadership and stewardship elevate our teams and the architecture we create together.
