Some of life's greatest work happens where nobody will ever see it.

Today I spent hours squeezed into a roof space that most people will never look inside.

It's hot.
It's dusty.
You can't stand up.
And if you drop your screwdriver... you're probably crawling another 10 metres to find it.

Yet every cable still has to be clipped properly.
Every connection still has to be tight.
Every circuit still has to be tested.

Because what nobody sees today determines what everyone experiences tomorrow.

It made me think...

Character is built much the same way.

The conversations nobody hears.
The decisions nobody applauds.
The shortcuts you refuse to take.
The extra effort when nobody is watching.

That's where integrity is formed.

Whether you're an electrician, plumber, teacher, farmer, parent or business owner...

The quality of what people do see is almost always determined by the work they don't.

Good workmanship starts long before the switch is turned on.

Every Job a Parable

"Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." — Matthew 5:16

Some people see lights.

We see a story.

Every pole carefully positioned. Every cable hidden beneath the ground. Every fitting tightened. Every beam aimed with purpose. Long before darkness falls, someone has already prepared for it.

That is the Christian life.

Christ doesn't promise a world without darkness. He calls His people to be light in it (Matthew 5:14-16).

Every honest day's work becomes a quiet parable. Every trench dug, every wire pulled, every switch tested, every late finish—done with excellence—is an act of worship when it's offered to the Lord (Colossians 3:23).

When these avenue lights came on, they did more than illuminate a driveway. They welcomed strangers, provided safety, revealed beauty, and pointed beyond themselves.

That's also what faithful Christians are called to do!

Our work isn't just about electricity, timber, steel, or concrete, but about reflecting the Light of the world.

"Whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the LORD and not to men." Colossians 3:23

Every job is a parable. Every profession an opportunity. Every finished project a glimpse of the God who brings order from chaos and light into darkness.

What's the parable in your work?

Things clients have said this week:
“Can’t you just join them all together?” 😂

Me: 😳👉

Electrical wiring isn’t complicated because electricians like making life difficult.

It’s complicated because every conductor has a specific purpose. Get one wrong and, at best, nothing works. At worst… things get exciting for all the wrong reasons.

A tidy electrical installation isn’t just about making it look pretty—it’s about making it safe, reliable and easy to maintain for the next 30 years.

(And yes… I did eventually get them all back where they belong.)

👍 If you’ve ever opened something and immediately questioned your career choices, you’re my kind of people.

Moving towards a Net Zero target for 2050.

By eliminating coal, additional mining is needed for rare earth resources like nickel, cobalt and lithium etc. More again for more solar panels.

Are zero carbon emissions really worth the financial supposed economic cost? Are these carbon emissions even measurably harmful? I struggle to believe so.

What are your thoughts?

The Cook Labor Government is continuing to secure Western Australia's clean energy future with GenusPlus awarded a $270 million contract to build the first parts of Clean Energy Link - North, which promises to unlock renewable energy resources throughout WA's south-west.
