Supporting the kids school ☀️🍉
Its back! International fruit day, for something fun bring a gold coin donation for the P and C and wear your favorite fruit colours to school! Special thanks to our kind donors Mr. Scott Leary MLA for Albany & Suzie and Sam at Anchor Ceilings for their kind donations, all classes will be delivered a fruit platter to celebrate!
International Fruit Day is held on July 1st. It was first celebrated in 2007 in Mauerpark in Berlin, Germany, by former social work students from the University of Applied Science Alice Salomon in Berlin, who came together to share a meal of fruits and vegetables. Quickly, the aspect of sustainability became a focal point; hence the casual event turned into an international observance to increase awareness of the nutritional and health benefits of eating more fruits, the importance of lessening losses and waste in food systems across the globe.
Some fruity fun facts for you to enjoy!
-Apples come in over 7,500 different varieties.
-The pomegranate is one of the oldest known fruits, with evidence of cultivation dating back to ancient civilizations.
-The kiwi fruit originated in China but is now named after the national bird of New Zealand.
-The orange is the most popular fruit in the world.
-The banana is actually classified as an herb, not a fruit (don't tell the kids dressed as yellow for bananas)
..and one for the adults, Coffee beans are not beans; they are seeds found inside the fruit pits of the coffee plant. The coffee plant produces small, red or purple fruits known as coffee cherries. Each cherry typically contains two seeds, which are the coffee “beans” used to brew coffee.
These seeds are extracted from the fruit, processed, and roasted to create the coffee we drink. SOOO technically, you may just need to have another cup of coffee to meet your daily fruit intake ;-)
We hope you all have a fruit-i-ful day!
