Awesome project on Mt Clarence down at Middleton Beach today โค๏ธ๐ชพ๐ชพ๐ชพ
We are reducing hazardous dead trees and creating habitat stags over the mountain bike trail network. Using custom tools and specialised cutting techniques we can enhance the remaining treeโs ability to provide usable habitat for a range of animals, birds, and insects ๐ชพ๐ฟ๏ธ๐ฆ๐ฆโโฌ๐๐๐ชฒ๐ชพ
We start by conducting an aerial inspection of the tree to ascertain where the best points to reduce the branches are to reduce hazard from falling limbs. Each cut is then carefully crated using a technique called Coronet cutting which mimics a natural branch snap. This provides small nooks and crannies that soon become habitat for various insects and borers. They also allow easy perching for birds while they feed on the insects that have taken up residence in the tree.
Once the tree is reduced we use a custom tool called the Hollow Hog to carve bird nesting hollows into the trunk at an appropriate height.
This is the type of work we love the most, doing the job we are trained for whilst creating a positive outcome for the community and environment โค๏ธ๐ณ๐ฒ๐๐๐ฆ
