Yellow Against Grey
Beneath a sky of softened grey,
the rain had hushed the waking day,
and there, upon the darkened tree,
a thousand yellows shone for me.
How strange that colour burns so bright
when all the world has lost its light,
as though the tree had somehow known
to make a little sun its own.
And perhaps love is something so:
a sudden gold in skies of grey,
not waiting for the storm to pass,
but choosing, still, to bloom today.
