Project Level Engineering Geologist (Full-Time)
Experience: 3–5 years of Australian/SA industry experience in site investigations and ground characterisation.
Requirements: Tertiary qualifications in Geology or Geological Engineering, proficiency in AS1726 soil and rock logging, and hands-on experience with gINT or OpenGround.
The Role: Lead field operations, manage datasets, deliver technically robust reports, and mentor field technicians alongside Senior and Principal Engineers.

Senior Soil (CMT) Technician
Experience: Proven experience in Construction Materials Testing. Holds an EPA Radiation Licence
The Role: Lead field and laboratory testing, drive quality control processes on key development/infrastructure sites and help guide and mentor our junior team.

Entry Level Drilling Assistant / Offsider (Full-Time)
Experience: No experience required! Immediate start with full training provided.
Requirements: Construction Industry White Card, current SA Drivers Licence (manual vehicle proficiency), ability to pass pre-employment medical/D&A screening, and a strong work ethic.
The Role: Assist lead drillers, support daily field operations, and kickstart a long-term career path in drilling operations.

We were proud to collaborate with the BMD Group welcoming a talented group of Engineers and Project Managers to our Adelaide facility for an afternoon of technical learning and hands on laboratory experience.

The group from BMD were passionate and engaged, asking fantastic questions, getting a broad understanding of all aspects of what SMS Geotechnical can offer our clients and the specialty testing we can perform. Feedback from BMD attendees included, “some of the most valuable elements of the course were getting real life questions answered”.

SMS Geotechnical are always proud to give back to our local community. This year we have decided to sponsor Judd (Rocket) Ronald Plaisted's Road Racing Campaign as he heads to his first international road racing experience.

Judd is a 12-year-old road-racer from South Australia, with big dreams. Judd’s 2024 MINIGP campaign has been faultless, taking a maximum 100 points available and re-setting his lap records.

All going well, Judd will join 36 of the world’s elite junior racers from 18 different countries, at the MINIGP world finale in Valencia, Spain.

Your dedication and commitment to your sport is an inspiration to everyone at SMS Geotechnical. We wish you the best of luck in your international endeavors.

Joe and Blake joined SMS Geotechnical after completing year 11 at high school to start their career.

SMS Geotechnical offered them a traineeship and with us they were able to complete their,

Joe and Blake have continued to learn new skills and develop their careers in the Geotechnical Assurance Testing Industry.

SMS Geotechnical proudly celebrated 10 Years in business over the weekend. We are proud of our journey and the teams we have built across South Australia and Northern Territory. Our people are our most important asset and celebrating all those employees who have dedicated 5 years or more of service at our 10-year celebration fills us with pride.

In our founding days we started with 3 directors who built SMS Geotechnical from the ground up. Over the last 10 years we have grown to over 70 employees across 5 brick and mortar locations, multiple annex-based operations, and our mission to deliver Quality in Construction has never been a bigger focus.

We would like to thank our people and our wonderful clients for helping us reach this momentous milestone. We look forward to our continued partnerships as we focus towards the next 10 years.

As safeworkmonth ends, we round out the month with a BBQ breakfast and an all-employee toolbox meeting in Adelaide. Our people are our greatest asset and the time taken today to slow down and reflect on what’s important to everyone’s safety and wellbeing is valued time for everyone.

The roll out of our employee app has been a huge success, making our Safety Management System accessible and easy to use for all our employees. Safe Work Month highlights the importance of managing an employee’s emotional wellbeing as well their physical health. To ensure our people are well supported our new Employee Code of Conduct, launched as part of Safe Work Month, brings this all together. Setting high standards of both ethical and equitable behaviour in the day-to-day conduct of our business operations.

Our “Leaders in Safety” mission means that our journey does not stop here, our investment into the safety and wellbeing of our employees continues and we are excited for what the future holds here at SMS Geotechnical.

Training is an integral part of our business and we are proud to recognise the efforts and work Simon Nelson has dedicated to completing his Diploma of Laboratory Technology. SMS Geotechnical and LTT have been working together for many years to educate our technicians which not only improves our company, but the industry as a whole. We would like to thank Agnes Wong for working with us through these difficult Covid times and her dedication to our staff. Simon Gazia, Thank you, for your continued support, we look forward to congratulating more staff as they continue to graduate with LTT.
