GoodWe battery owners: your battery can do more than store solar.

We’re using Home Assistant, LocalVolts pricing and GoodWe integrations to help suitable systems respond to wholesale price signals — when to export, when to curtail, when to use cheap energy, and when to discharge.

Wholesale pricing is not automatically better. The right answer depends on your tariff, solar, battery, usage and setup.
We’re currently offering a free GoodWe battery setup check. Share your SEMS+ plant and we’ll review the setup and report back.

“They said bigger was better.”

Kev’s Christmas tree disagrees. So does his roof rack. 🎄

Home batteries deserve a little more thought than “give me the biggest one”.

A larger battery can make sense—but the right size depends on how you use electricity, your existing solar, your energy plan and what you want to keep running during a blackout.

With Jousto’s Help Me Choose, you can explore recommended options, potential savings and backup needs. And if you’d like a hand, an energy advisor can talk it through with you.

Before you buy the battery equivalent of Kev’s Christmas tree, find what fits your home.

If the power went out tonight, how long would a home battery actually keep your house running?

A lot of people assume the answer is simply:

“10 kWh battery = X hours.”

It doesn’t really work like that.

A battery needs enough power to run the appliances you want on at the same time — and enough stored energy to keep them running.

There’s a big difference between backing up:

Fridge + freezer + lights + Wi-Fi

…and trying to run:

Ducted air conditioning + hot water + pool pump + cooking appliances as well.

And if the blackout lasts more than one night, there’s another question most people don’t think about:

Will your solar keep working during the outage and recharge the battery for the next night?

We’ve put together an independent guide for Australian homeowners that explains:

kW vs kWh in plain English
how different household appliances affect battery runtime
essential loads vs whole-home backup
air conditioning during a blackout
what happens when the battery goes flat
whether your existing solar can keep working
AC-coupled vs DC-coupled backup
what to look for before choosing a battery

If you’d like a copy, comment:

BLACKOUT

and we’ll send it to you.

You can also use our free calculator to model your own home and see what battery and backup capability you may actually need.

Don’t choose the battery first. Work out what the house needs first.

🎥 What does a quality solar & battery installation partner actually look like?

At Jousto, we believe choosing the right installer is just as important as choosing the right battery or inverter.

That’s why we’re proud to showcase the businesses we’re privileged to work alongside.

This week we’re featuring JPC Electrical & Solar, one of our trusted installation partners, and taking a look behind the scenes at how they deliver commercial solar projects across South Australia.

Australia's Battery Trust Gap 🔋

The batteries Australians ask for aren't always the batteries installers choose.

And that raises an interesting question.

Who should you trust when you're spending $10,000 to $20,000 on a home battery?

The brand you've heard of...

Or the brand installers keep choosing?

Looking at battery preference data across the Jousto network, we found some clear patterns:

⚡ Goodwe performs strongly with both consumers and installers.

⚡ Sungrow also ranks highly across both groups.

⚡ Tesla remains one of the most requested battery brands by homeowners.

⚡ Yet installer adoption is significantly lower than Goodwe and Sungrow.

⚡ Sigenergy is the opposite story, with strong installer support but lower consumer awareness.

Why does this happen?

Consumers often make decisions based on advertising, online reviews and brand recognition.

Installers make decisions based on years of installations, support experiences, warranty claims and long-term performance.

Neither perspective is wrong.

But they're often different.

That's why comparing battery brands isn't just about price.

It's about confidence.

If you were installing a battery on your own home tomorrow...

Would you choose the brand consumers ask for?

Or the brand installers choose most often?

What's the best battery?

Most people ask the wrong question.

They ask:

"What's the cheapest battery?"

But cheap doesn't always mean good value.

And expensive doesn't always mean better.

That's why we created the Jousto Battery Value Index™.

Instead of looking at price alone, we considered:

✅ Battery pricing

✅ Warranty coverage

✅ Consumer sentiment

✅ Overall market confidence

Our latest rankings place:

🥇 Sungrow

🥈 Sigenergy

🥉 Goodwe

ahead of some better-known premium brands when overall value is considered.

One of the biggest surprises?

Tesla remains one of Australia's most recognised battery brands, but higher pricing reduces its overall value score.

The takeaway isn't that one battery is "best".

It's that value is about balancing cost, warranty and confidence.

Not simply buying the cheapest battery on the market.

If you were installing a battery tomorrow, would you choose the cheapest option or the one offering the strongest overall value?

Australia's Battery Trust Gap 🔋

The batteries Australians ask for aren't always the batteries installers choose.

Our latest data revealed something interesting:

✅ Goodwe is highly preferred by consumers and installers.

✅ Sungrow performs strongly across both groups.

⚡ Tesla remains one of the most requested battery brands by homeowners.

👷 Yet installers are choosing Goodwe and Sungrow far more often.

Meanwhile...

📈 Sigenergy is seeing stronger installer adoption than consumer demand would suggest.

Why the disconnect?

Because consumers buy based on advertising, reviews and brand recognition.

Installers buy based on what they have to support for the next 10 years.

That's a very different decision.

Which battery brand would you choose for your own home?

How much should battery storage actually cost?

The answer depends on which brand you're looking at.

When we compared retail battery module pricing, we found a huge spread in cost per kWh.

Cheapest:

✅ SAJ — $220/kWh

✅ Goodwe Lynx F — $222/kWh

✅ Fox ESS CQ6 — $231/kWh

Most expensive:

⚠️ Enphase — $734/kWh

⚠️ SolarEdge — $675/kWh

⚠️ Tesla — $555/kWh

That's more than a 3x difference between the highest and lowest-priced batteries.

But here's the catch.

Price per kWh only tells part of the story.

You still need to consider:

• Warranty

• Backup functionality

• Inverter compatibility

• Software platform

• Brand support

• Installer network

• Virtual Power Plant compatibility

The cheapest battery isn't always the best value.

And the most expensive battery isn't automatically the best battery.

The smart buyers compare both price and reputation before making a decision.

The Federal Battery Rebate dropped.

But Sungrow battery pricing just dropped by up to **31.5%**.

That's the part nobody is talking about.

Most people assume a lower rebate automatically means batteries become less attractive.

But when we looked at battery module pricing, several manufacturers appear to have reduced prices significantly:

⬇️ Sungrow SBR: 31.5%

⬇️ Sungrow SBH: 27.2%

⬇️ Fox ESS CQ6: 18.5%

⬇️ Anker Solix: 16.4%

⬇️ SolarEdge: 15.5%

⬇️ Tesla: 5.7%

Important:

These are battery module prices only.

They don't include installation, inverters, rebates, switchboard upgrades or site-specific costs.

But the trend is interesting.

Some manufacturers may be absorbing part of the rebate reduction themselves.

Which means the real question isn't:

"Did the rebate go down?"

It's:

"Which battery is now the best value?"

Because cheapest $/kWh isn't always the winner.

Warranty.

Backup capability.

Inverter compatibility.

Software.

Local support.

Installed price.

All matter.

The battery market just got more competitive.

And battery buyers now need better comparisons than ever.

Would you buy the cheapest battery on the market—or pay more for a stronger ecosystem and warranty?
