If you've got solar but no battery, here's something most Adelaide homeowners don't realise: you're selling your best power for next to nothing during the day, then buying it back off the grid at full price the same night.

Every electricity retailer is required to offer a plan with a free daily energy window — a few hours where your battery can top up from the grid at no cost, on top of whatever your own panels make. Combine that with storing your solar instead of exporting it, and most solar-only households are looking at under 5 years to pay off a battery, with backup power running the whole time.

If you've already got solar and you're still watching a real power bill roll in, it's worth 10 minutes on the phone to run your actual numbers.

Massive milestone — the federal battery rebate has just clicked over 500,000 batteries installed.

You haven’t missed out. The rebate is still available, but it drops again at the end of the year.

I’m often met with a surprised reaction when I tell people that the Cheaper Home Batteries Program isn’t over.

It’s still going strong, with upfront discounts continuing on eligible home battery systems. However, the level of support is scheduled to decrease again for batteries installed from 1 January 2027.

That makes now a genuinely good time to find out whether a battery makes sense for your home.

There’s also a new opportunity for South Australian households: the Solar Sharer Offer.

Eligible homes with a smart meter can access up to three hours of free electricity every day, from 12pm to 3pm. That free period can even be used to charge a home battery.

So whether your solar is producing strongly or the weather isn’t cooperating, your battery may be able to charge using either your own solar or free electricity from the grid during the middle of the day—then power your home later when electricity normally costs more.

With the battery discount still available and the Solar Sharer Offer now underway, this is one of the best times we’ve seen to investigate solar and battery storage.

That doesn’t mean every home needs a battery or that every electricity plan will stack up. We’ll look at your solar, electricity use, tariff and backup needs before recommending anything.

If it makes sense, we’ll design the right system for your home. If it doesn’t, we’ll tell you that too.

There’s nothing better than a 5-star review! At Adelaide Solar Safe our main priority is to provide our customers with the highest quality products and service.
