A fantastic evening at the Australian Institute of Building Professional Excellence Awards.

Proud for Load 28 Crane Hire|Construction|Access to support an event that recognises something incredibly important to our industry — the people behind the projects.

One of the messages I shared on the night was that every project gives us an opportunity to learn, collaborate and leave the next generation better prepared than we were.
What made the evening particularly rewarding was hearing those same themes reflected by other speakers and award recipients throughout the night.

Congratulations to everyone recognised — from students and graduates beginning their careers through to the experienced professionals continuing to lead, mentor and raise the standard of our industry.

Thank you to the SA & NT Australian Institute of Building - South Australian & Northern Territory Chapter for bringing our profession together and continuing to champion professional excellence, shared learning and continuous improvement.

The buildings we create will shape our communities.

People often ask me what leadership looks like.
Sometimes it's sitting in the office making decisions.

Sometimes it's standing quietly on the ground, watching the first mast section of a tower crane rise into the sky.

And sometimes... it's putting the boots on, grabbing a hammer, pulling on the welding helmet and spending the morning alongside your crew.

This week we successfully installed TC3, our Potain MCH125, ready to support Mossop Construction + Interiors on another outstanding Adelaide project.

I genuinely enjoyed being back on the tools. Knocking pins into mast sections, helping tidy a few details, solving problems together and sharing a few laughs with the team.

Watching our people continue to grow is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do. Every installation reminds me that great projects aren't built by one person—they're built by teams that trust each other and strive to be better every day.

Leadership isn't about asking people to do something you wouldn't do yourself.
It's about being willing to step in whenever the team needs you.

Congratulations to everyone involved in another safe and successful installation.

Today I had an unexpected visitor.
A few years ago, Oscar Feddern joined Load 28 during a gap year while studying to become a paramedic. He worked with us as a labourer on the DMMF project before moving into a hoist operator role on the Women's & Children's Hospital project.

His mum joined the team as well, and together they operated the hoists.

Looking back now, I realise they weren't just coming to work each day—they were creating memories together.

Somewhere along the way, Oscar discovered a passion for construction.
Today, he's only a year away from graduating and has secured an undergraduate position with Hansen Yuncken.

He dropped in today for one reason.
To say thank you.

He told me that having Load 28 on his résumé gave him a real advantage when applying for his undergraduate role. Then he reminded me of something I'd almost forgotten—that when he finished Year 12, I organised for my hotrod, Sheer Tenacity, to take him to his formal!

To me, they were just opportunities and small gestures.

To him, they meant much more.
As he stood up to leave, he shook my hand and thanked me for believing in him.
I won't lie...It brought a tear to my eye.

Sometimes we get so focused on projects, deadlines, cranes and contracts that we forget what this industry is really about.
It's about people.
Watching young people grow in confidence, discover a career they love and go on to achieve great things is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.

Congratulations, Oscar. You should be incredibly proud of yourself.

I have no doubt you'll have a successful career ahead of you.
Thank you for taking the time to come back and say thank you. It genuinely made my day.

Never underestimate the impact you can have on someone's life. Sometimes, a single opportunity is all they need.

Over the past 12 months, our tower crane has played an important role in delivering the ARC Apartments project for Hindmarsh.

This week, it was time to bring it home.

Tower crane removals are among the most complex and high-risk operations we undertake. They demand meticulous planning, experienced crews and complete trust between everyone involved.

While I'm incredibly proud of the Load 28 Crane Hire|Construction|Access team for the professionalism, commitment and relentless effort they showed throughout this removal, I also want to acknowledge the outstanding support we received from Fleurieu Cranes Pty Ltd.

Their impressive 450-tonne Liebherr mobile crane is an incredible piece of engineering in its own right.

Some machines turn heads. Great crews earn respect.

A big thank you to Brandon Freer, and to the Fleurieu crew — Rowan, Scotty and Adam — for the professionalism, teamwork and support they showed throughout this project. They worked seamlessly alongside our crew to execute this complex lift with precision, efficiency and, most importantly, safety.

There was no "us and them" on this job—just one team focused on delivering the best outcome for our client.

Construction is built on relationships, trust and collaboration, and this project was a great example of two proud South Australian crane companies working together to complete a challenging tower crane removal safely and successfully.

Thank you to everyone involved. It was a pleasure working alongside you.

Some mornings remind you why you love this industry.

We started today's tower crane removal at ARC Apartments surrounded by fog, with barely enough visibility to appreciate what was unfolding around us.

By the end of the day, another successful stage was complete.

A huge effort from the entire Load 28 Crane Hire|Construction|Access crew over the past two days. We were a couple of key people down, but the team came together, planned every step, looked after one another and executed the job safely.

Proud of this crew.

Closing out another great project.

As we head into the final week on site at ARC Apartments for Hindmarsh, our Zoomlion L315 tower crane is preparing for its final lifts before dismantle.

The last few weeks have demanded plenty from the team, with long hours and a real commitment to ensuring every remaining lift is completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule before crane removal.

Projects like this are only possible because of the dedication of the people on the ground. From our operators and riggers through to our technicians and project support team, everyone has played their part.

A huge thank you to the entire Load 28 Crane Hire|Construction|Access crew for your professionalism, hard work, and commitment throughout this project. It's something you should all be proud of.

Thank you also to Hindmarsh for the opportunity to support another outstanding Adelaide development.

🏗️ A BOOMING INDUSTRY. A FORGOTTEN SECTOR
➡️ It’s time for crane sector reform

Earlier this year, Managing Director Marcus Rigney, had the privilege of being a guest speaker at Master Builders SA's prestigious Top 100 event held at the Adelaide Convention Centre.

The luncheon, which served as an "Election Special", was attended by over 550 of the state’s leading construction and building professionals, and featured presentations from The Premier of South Australia, The Hon Peter Malinauskas MP, and The Leader of the Opposition, Ashton Hurn MP.

Rather than donning the podium, Marcus seized the opportunity to play a 5-minute video highlighting the current challenges and structural barriers faced by the crane sector.

The presentation, “A Booming Industry. A Forgotten Sector,” was the culmination of years of advocacy from crane industry leaders, and months of research, bringing together calculated estimates of the vast number of crane personnel and craneage skills required to meet the state’s ambitious infrastructure targets, projected to reach a staggering $25.6 billion by mid-2028. 📈

Despite South Australia’s construction industry being at a historic peak, driven by major projects in transport, health and urban spaces, growth remains fragile. The crane sector, in particular, is at a critical juncture. Current policy frameworks fail to recognise the technical complexity of modern crane operations, resulting in a workforce that is aging, under-subsidised, and increasingly difficult to replenish.

A lack of real-time workforce data, exclusion from federal skilled migration lists, neglect in policy and training plans, and a vocational education system that doesn’t subsidise the costly, advanced requirements of modern heavy lifting, are just some of the challenges that threaten to derail the government's bold targets. 🎯

Post-event, we delivered a formal submission and industry reform roadmap to Master Builders SA. Load 28 values this ongoing partnership and the platforms and opportunities they provide. We now urge our peak bodies and state policymakers to hear our concerns, collaborate on these solutions, and drive the future growth of South Australia.

Judging has commenced!

The judges for the 2026 Master Builders SA Building Excellence Awards are visiting sites across the state to assess more than 200 award entries.

Here’s an update from the Chair of Judges, Marcus Rigney:

“Judging is officially underway for this year’s SA Building Excellence Awards - and sometimes, judging means going behind the scenes!

This week, we suited up in scrubs to inspect the Eastwood Hospital Project. It’s a reminder that these awards are about far more than what’s visible on the surface - they recognise the craftsmanship, innovation, leadership, and problem-solving that bring complex projects to life.

With more than 200 entries across 45 categories, our independent judging panel is looking for projects that set new benchmarks, inspire future generations, and showcase the very best of South Australia’s building and construction industry.

As Chair of Judges, it’s a privilege to witness the passion, expertise, and commitment that continues to shape our industry and help build a stronger, more future-ready South Australia.

Good luck to all entrants — the standard this year is exceptional.”

We've been eagerly waiting to share this epic video footage, and it's finally here! Watch as the Load 28 team expertly handles a massive logistical operation with our Potain MCR305 Luffing Tower Crane across two major projects.

Here's how it all unfolded:
📅 Thursday: Removed from Mount Barker Hospital Project (Built)
📅 Friday: Transported to Lot 51 Bowden, pre-assembly checks begin
📅 Monday: Continued checks and non-destructive testing
📅 Tuesday: Erected at Lot 51 Bowden (Hindmarsh)

But that's not all! Our team also completed statutory inspections, NDT testing, servicing, power-up, commissioning, and final handover to ensure everything is compliant, safe, and ready for action.

Remember, successful crane operations are built long before the first lift. The planning, coordination, and risk management behind the scenes are pivotal and often take weeks of meticulous preparation. 🏗️

Load 28 installed the highest number of tower cranes in our 16 years of operation in 2025. At one point, we had half of the tower cranes flying high above the skies of Adelaide. We currently have 8 in the air, with another one due to be installed in the next couple of weeks. 🏗️
