As a fitting conclusion to the Swanbury Penglase Heritage Tour of our immediate neighbourhood, the Heritage Team attended the State Theatre Company South Australia – “Logan Street” by Jacob Boehme

“Logan Street” explores the family history and lived experiences in the backyards of the Adelaide mosque, telling the story of an unlikely alliance between an Afghan cameleer and mosque caretaker, and a young First Nations woman navigating life, loss and love on Kaurna Country. The play is an autobiographical work of fiction that draws on extensive historical research, conversations with family and community members, and documented events. While many people, places and historical events are referenced, the play uses dramatic storytelling to explore these experiences.

It was a fantastic story founded in fact and deepened our understanding of the personal relationships that helped make our area what it is today, the team had a wonderful time and are motivated to continue exploring the rich character of our surrounding heritage.

Swanbury Penglase wouldn’t be the same without our wonderful team.

As we honour some of the incredible achievements across the practice, we’re proud to recognise Sue Kyriacou and celebrate her remarkable milestone of 15 years at Swanbury Penglase (25 years total!).

“It’s been 15 years since I returned to SP but it’s really 25 if you include the original 10 years (just with a 15-year gap in between them).

I began my career in an office before computers, when specifications were typed manually on a typewriter, and architects worked at drawing boards, a time when “cut and paste” involved actual scissors and glue. It has been remarkable to witness the changes in both the architectural profession and Swanbury Penglase over the past decades. Through it all, I have had the privilege of working alongside many wonderful people and some have become lifelong friends.

I have so many happy memories and feel incredibly fortunate to have spent most of my working life at Swanbury Penglase Architects. Twenty-five years, countless memories, plenty of changes, and thankfully, far fewer paper cuts” - Sue

Congratulations on a wonderful achievement Sue and thank you for all you bring to the team!

We are proud to share the completion of Stage 2 of Compass Catholic Community in Davoren Park for Catholic Education South Australia.

Building on the original project completed in 2021, our involvement in Stage 2 introduces three new buildings and extensive landscaping designed to support growing enrolments and enhance learning, wellbeing and community connection.

The design continues to intentionally move away from an institutional character, instead fostering a welcoming, community-oriented environment that supports an alternative education model for young people aged 17 to 24. The learning environment responds to young people who have experienced disconnection from conventional schooling and community support.

A seamless co-design dialogue between architecture, interiors and landscape architecture underpins the design, with landscape acting as the connective tissue that holds the architecture of both stages together. This integrated approach supports indoor–outdoor learning environments, supports therapeutic walking loops, and delivers the school's first dedicated fitness area.

The design also carefully retains the existing mature native tree, integrates WSUD (water sensitive urban design) strategies, and establishes clear sightlines and legible circulation across the site. Together, these elements create a calm, village-like community environment that balances openness, safety, and ease of maintenance, while also allowing for future growth.

We are proud to have contributed to the growth of this inspiring facility and to the creation of spaces that empower young people to learn, connect, and thrive.

The Trinity College Roseworthy outdoor learning environments are designed as a campus-wide learning framework, not a collection of playgrounds. It operates as a graduated network of settings, from structured teaching terraces to quiet garden rooms, enabling the College to shift learning outside as pedagogy, cohort needs and programs evolve. At the core, the School Heart concentrates high-use, highly supervised spaces for social connection, active play and informal gathering. From there, learning settings extend into the landscape, offering increasing choice and autonomy as students develop. This supports multiple modes of learning: whole-class instruction, small-group collaboration, independent work and targeted intervention.
