πŸ“ Surrey Hills, VIC

BIG ROOF. BIG OPPORTUNITY.

With sufficient roof space available, this Surrey Hills home gave us the opportunity to design a larger solar and battery system focused on maximising year-round energy self-sufficiency.

The Every Solar 2.0 team installed a 15.98 kW solar system paired with 30 kWh of usable battery storage, allowing the household to generate more of its own electricity during the day and store surplus solar energy for use in the evening and overnight.

β˜€οΈ SYSTEM INSTALLED
Solar: 15.98 kW β€” 34 Γ— 470W Jinko JKM470N-48HL4M-DV panels
Inverter: Sungrow SH15T β€” 15 kW Three-Phase Hybrid Inverter
Battery: Sungrow SBH300 β€” 30 kWh usable capacity
Installation: Outdoor
Backup: Essential power outage backup for lighting & refrigeration

πŸ’‘ WHY WAS THE SYSTEM DESIGNED THIS WAY?

Instead of simply sizing the solar system around daytime electricity consumption, we made use of the available roof space to create a system capable of generating substantially more energy throughout the day.

The 30 kWh battery can capture surplus solar generation for use later, helping the household:
β˜€οΈ Maximise the use of its own solar energy
πŸ”‹ Store excess daytime generation for evening and overnight use
⚑ Reduce reliance on electricity purchased from the grid
🏠 Maintain backup power for essential lighting and refrigeration
πŸ“ˆ Better accommodate future increases in household electricity demand

πŸ’‘ WHY SUNGROW?

Founded in 1997, Sungrow is a long-established global renewable energy technology company with decades of experience in solar inverter and energy storage technology.

For this Surrey Hills project, the Sungrow SH15T hybrid inverter and SBH300 battery were selected to complement the home’s larger 15.98 kW solar system and 30 kWh storage requirement.
The combination provides high power capability, modular battery storage, integrated energy management and backup support, making it a strong fit for a household looking to maximise its own solar energy while preparing for future electricity needs.

β˜€οΈ BE SMART! LET THE SUN PAY YOUR POWER BILL!

With a large solar array and substantial battery storage working together, this Surrey Hills home can make better use of its rooftop solar throughout the day and into the evening, reducing the amount of electricity it needs to draw from the grid.

Invest in the Best.

⚑ CHEAPER ISN’T ALWAYS BETTER β€” KNOW WHAT YOU’RE BUYING

Recent industry news has highlighted an important reminder for anyone considering a home battery in Australia.

The Clean Energy Council (CEC) has announced its intention to suspend seven NEOVOLT battery models from eligibility for Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs), which underpin the federal Cheaper Home Batteries rebate, due to product compliance issues.

The reported issues include:
πŸ”Ή An IEC 62619 certificate relied upon for approval of several models becoming invalid
πŸ”Ή Product nameplate labels not matching the testing and certification documentation supplied for approval
πŸ”Ή Difficulty distinguishing between different imported battery variants

Importantly, the CEC stated that the proposed suspension was not related to a product recall or an identified product safety issue.

πŸ’‘ WHAT CAN CONSUMERS TAKE AWAY FROM THIS?

Cheaper isn't always better, but more expensive doesn't automatically mean better either.

When comparing battery systems, the upfront price and storage capacity are only part of the picture.

Customers should also consider:
βœ… Product compliance & rebate eligibility
βœ… Manufacturer reputation and support
βœ… Warranty terms & after-sales service
βœ… System performance, features & compatibility
βœ… Local technical support
βœ… Long-term value, not just the upfront price

And just as importantly, choose a retailer you can trust.

At EverySolar 2.0, we don't believe there is one battery brand that is perfect for everyone.

Different brands have different strengths, limitations, features and price points. What works well for one household or business may not necessarily be the best fit for another.

Our responsibility is to explain the pros and cons clearly and transparently, so our customers understand what they're buying and why.

We provide the information.
We explain the options.
You make the final choice with confidence.

Because solar and battery storage is a long-term investment, and your decision should be based on more than simply:

β˜€οΈ GOOD NEWS FOR VICTORIAN HOUSEHOLDS!
3 HOURS OF FREE ELECTRICITY EVERY DAY!

The Victorian Government is introducing the Midday Power Saver, giving eligible households access to free electricity during the middle of the day.

By making smarter use of energy during the daytime, households may have an opportunity to reduce their electricity costs. Actual savings will depend on how and when electricity is used.

🟠 WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
πŸ“… Starts: 1 October 2026
πŸ•š Free electricity: 11 am – 2 pm, every day
⚑ Daily allowance: Up to 24 kWh of free grid electricity

🏑 WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

To access the offer, you generally need to:
βœ… Be a residential electricity customer in Victoria
βœ… Have a smart meter installed
βœ… Opt in through an eligible electricity retailer

Both homeowners and renters may be eligible. Licensed retailers with 1,000 customers or more will be required to offer the Midday Power Saver.

πŸ”‹ WHAT ABOUT SOLAR & BATTERY OWNERS?

Households with compatible battery systems may be able to schedule battery charging during the free electricity period and use the stored energy later when electricity is more expensive.

EV charging, hot water systems and other high-energy appliances can also be scheduled during the free period to make better use of daytime electricity. The Victorian Government recommends spreading multiple high-energy loads across the three-hour window rather than operating everything at the same time.

Actual savings will depend on your electricity usage, system configuration and electricity plan.

🟠 HOW DOES THE SOLAR SOAK PERIOD WORK?

⚑ 11 am – 2 pm: Up to 24 kWh of free electricity each day.
β˜€οΈ 2 pm – 4 pm: Electricity is charged at the applicable Solar Soak rate.

If electricity use exceeds the 24 kWh daily fair-use cap during the free period, the excess usage is charged at the applicable Solar Soak/excess usage rate.

This gives households an opportunity to make greater use of electricity during the middle of the day, when solar generation across Victoria is high.

🟠 CAN RETAILERS STILL OFFER THEIR OWN FREE ELECTRICITY PLANS?

YES! The Midday Power Saver does not replace existing retailer market offers.

Electricity retailers can continue offering their own free-electricity plans, including offers with three or more free hours per day. These market offers can have different pricing structures, eligibility requirements and conditions.

Before switching, compare:
βœ… Free electricity hours and daily allowances
βœ… Electricity rates outside the free period
βœ… Daily supply charges
βœ… Solar feed-in tariffs and battery incentives

Remember: Free hours of electricity do not always mean a lower electricity bill! Electricity prices outside the free period may be higher, so the best plan depends on your household's usage pattern.

Queensland's Tumuruu Project: 400 MW Solar + 2 GWh Battery Approved ⚑

The news
On 11 May 2026, the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water gave federal approval to the Tumuruu project β€” a 400 MW solar farm paired with a 2,000 MWh battery energy storage system on a 673-hectare site north of Blackbutt, in Queensland's South Burnett region. The project is being developed by Australian Solar Enterprises (ASE), with a final investment decision targeted for later this year and operations expected to start in 2028.

2,000 MWh β€” that's 2 GWh β€” puts Tumuruu among the largest battery storage projects in Australia by capacity. For context, that single project can store as much electricity as around 100,000 typical home batteries combined.

The site will use grid-forming inverters, which means the battery system can help stabilise grid frequency and voltage on its own β€” a capability that conventional inverters don't have, and one that becomes increasingly important as more renewable generation enters the network.

For South-East Queensland households and businesses, the practical implications are downstream rather than immediate:
- More renewable generation on the grid through the late 2020s
- More large-scale storage smoothing out the midday solar peak and the evening demand peak
- Continued pressure on coal generation economics, which feeds into wholesale electricity prices
- A clearer signal that battery storage β€” at every scale, from household to grid β€” is core infrastructure rather than a niche add-on

Want to talk through what this means for your home or business? We're happy to walk through the numbers using your actual usage data.

How AI's Power Demand Is Driving a Global Energy Storage Boom ⚑

Energy storage and on-site generation have become one of the most active sectors in global energy markets right now. Companies like Bloom Energy, Fluence Energy, Tesla's Megapack division and Plug Power are getting widespread attention β€” not because of clever marketing, but because the world has run into a structural problem: AI needs more power than the grid can deliver fast enough.

What's happening
A single large AI data centre consumes roughly the equivalent of 100,000 homes. Goldman Sachs projects global data centre power demand will rise 220% by 2030 versus 2023. US data centres already account for over 7% of national electricity consumption, and that share is climbing.

Why storage suddenly matters at this scale
The fundamental problem storage solves is timing. Solar generates abundantly at midday. Demand peaks in the evening. Wind blows when it blows, not when you need it.

Without storage, none of these mismatches resolve cleanly

The companies driving the story
- Bloom Energy: solid oxide fuel cells, deployable on-site in months without waiting for grid expansion
- Fluence Energy: utility-scale battery storage systems, around 50 GWh deployed across roughly 300 projects worldwide
- Tesla Megapack: utility-scale battery storage, now a meaningful share of Tesla's overall business
- Plug Power: hydrogen fuel cells, used in data centres and heavy-duty applications

EverySolar's day job is at the household end of this same supply chain: taking the technology that's powering global AI infrastructure and applying it to homes that want energy independence and cost stability. We watch the global story closely because it shapes what's available locally.
