Hotel Aurora; Merano, IT – completed!
Merano, in the Italian region of South Tyrol, developed in the nineteenth century into a spa town; its mild climate allows outdoor living even in winter and supports vegetation unusual for the Alpine region. Hotels, villas and promenades along the Passer River structure the town as an urban landscape shaped by movement, leisure and nature.
Hotel Aurora is located on this promenade, at one of the city’s most distinctive points of transition: between the open river landscape with its mountain panorama and the dense urban fabric of the old town around Piazza Teatro. This tension is the site’s defining quality — and the starting point of the design. The project continues the existing typology: the building still reads as a two-storey structure with a new, oversized mansard roof — wrapped in a light veil of aluminium fins. Rising above the historic building, the addition forms a distinct contemporary crown.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to all partners involved and our fantastic team!
