Little Star Kindergarten – Mass Timber Construction for Public Childcare 🏫⭐

On the campus of Wen Xian Elementary School in southern Taiwan, a new kindergarten was realised in response to the growing demand for public childcare facilities.

The single storey building is organised around a central courtyard. Classrooms are arranged along the perimeter, ensuring clear orientation, easy supervision and direct access to outdoor spaces. The name Little Star refers to this star like spatial layout.

The load bearing structure was executed using KLH® – CLT as the primary structural system. Four prefabricated timber volumes are connected by a central corridor, forming a clear and efficient construction logic. Prefabrication enabled a precise assembly process with minimal impact on the existing school campus.

Private House in Cheongju, South Korea 🏡🌲

In Cheongju, South Korea, a two-storey private house for a professor at the Department of Forest Science demonstrates how timber construction can be realised efficiently on a residential scale. It also reflects the growing adoption of engineered timber in the region.

KLH® – CLT was used for the roof and slab elements, while the external walls were realised in light timber framing. This combination created a structural system tailored to the scale and requirements of a single-family residence.

One of the project's most notable aspects was the speed of construction: the prefabricated CLT structure was installed in just one day by two workers, highlighting the efficiency that timber construction can offer even in smaller residential projects.

Holzbauwissen aus erster Hand 🌲

Im Rahmen des Fortbildungsseminars „Sichere Holzbearbeitung in Theorie und Praxis“ der AUVA - Allgemeine Unfallversicherungsanstalt besuchten rund 40 Holzpraxislehrkräfte aus ganz Österreich unser Werk in Katsch. Im Mittelpunkt standen Einblicke in die Entwicklung von KLH, die Herstellung von Brettsperrholz sowie aktuelle Entwicklungen im modernen Holzbau.

💦 Neumarkt Public Pool – A New Chapter for a Local Landmark

For generations, the public pool in Neumarkt/Steiermark has been a popular summer destination and gathering place for the local community. The recent redevelopment modernised the facility while preserving its role as an important meeting point.

At the heart of the project is a new gastronomy and service building that complements the renewed pool and extends its appeal beyond the bathing season. Despite limited space and challenging site conditions, hospitality areas, building services and pool technology were successfully integrated into a compact concept.

Constructed using approximately 955 m² of KLH® – CLT, the building combines functional efficiency with a warm architectural character. Opened in spring 2026, the revitalised facility continues Neumarkt's bathing tradition while offering a contemporary setting for recreation and community life.

A New Benchmark for Educational Architecture 🏫📚

Learning environments shape how knowledge is shared, experienced, and developed. With the new Hoskins Building at The Illawarra Grammar School (TIGS) in Wollongong, an educational facility has been created with exactly this purpose at its core.

As Australia's first all-CLT school building, it demonstrates how timber construction, designed to reduce operational energy demand, and innovative learning spaces can come together in a single project.

Flexible learning spaces, open collaboration areas, and a healthy indoor environment support both focused study and interaction. Generous daylight and exposed timber surfaces create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for students and teachers alike.

Built with KLH® – CLT, the structure combines outstanding energy performance with the benefits of modern timber construction. Thanks to precise planning and a high degree of prefabrication, approximately 300 tonnes of timber structure were installed in just five weeks. Designed to the International Passivhaus Standard, the building conserves resources while contributing to long-term user wellbeing

Sports Center Dounan: Rethinking Public Sports Facilities in Timber 💦

With the Sports Center Dounan, a new benchmark for public timber construction has been created in Taiwan. While large-scale swimming and leisure complexes are typically built using steel or concrete, this project deliberately opted for timber. Alongside sustainability considerations, the material was chosen for its suitability in humid and chlorine-rich environments.

Replacing the former municipal swimming pool, the new sports center brings together an indoor pool, outdoor competition pool, fitness and activity spaces, and a range of recreational amenities under one roof. Its architecture draws inspiration from the greenhouse structures that characterize Yunlin’s agricultural landscape, translating this familiar regional feature into a contemporary destination for sport and leisure.
