​The elevator industry has evolved, bringing us a major tech debate: Polyurethane Coated Steel Belts vs. Traditional Steel Wire Ropes. Both have massive roles in modern traction systems, but they offer completely different advantages.
​🔍 The Breakdown:
​Elevator Steel Belts:
​Pros: Smoother, quieter ride, higher flexibility allowing for smaller sheave diameters (saving space), and no metal-on-metal friction (no lubrication needed!).
​Cons: Higher initial cost, requires specialized monitoring systems to check internal cord wear.
​Traditional Wire Ropes:
​Pros: The industry gold standard for a reason. Highly reliable, cost-effective, easy to inspect visually, and trusted worldwide for decades.
​Cons: Requires regular lubrication, larger sheaves (takes up more machine room/hoistway space), and higher vibration compared to belts.
