Have you ever noticed the flashes of silver and colour on traditional Emirati women’s clothing? ✨🧵
The answer lies in Al Talli, a traditional Emirati craft. Inspired by desert and maritime life, artisans weave colourful and silver threads into intricate patterns that decorate women’s clothing. More than a craft, Al Talli is a cultural story written in thread.
In the past, Emirati women often gathered to practise Al Talli, sharing skills and stories as they worked. Today, the tradition lives on at festivals and cultural events, passing from one generation to the next. ✨
Each piece is a tangible bridge between past and present, carrying a sense of Emirati pride and identity while keeping an age-old tradition alive in a changing world. 🇦🇪

How did people in the UAE keep their homes cool before modern air conditioning? 🌬️🏛️
Traditional wind towers—known locally as barjeels—captured passing breezes through openings above roof level and directed airflow indoors, creating natural ventilation that helped people cope with the desert heat. This design reflects how traditional Emirati architecture adapted to its natural surroundings. ☀️🌿
Today, this time-honoured wisdom continues to inspire sustainable architecture. By combining natural airflow, shading, and strategic orientation, modern buildings can improve indoor comfort while reducing reliance on energy-intensive cooling systems. 🏢🌍
From historic neighbourhoods to future green cities, barjeels bridge traditional knowledge with modern innovation, reflecting a long-standing harmony with the desert environment. ✨

Why have date palms always been at the heart of oasis life in the UAE? 🌴✨
For generations, date palms have shaped the rhythm of life across UAE oases. Their sweet fruit nourished communities, their wide canopies sheltered crops from the desert sun, and alongside winding irrigation canals, farmers passed down cultivation skills that keep these green sanctuaries thriving. 💧🌿
Today, this living heritage remains as vibrant as ever. Date festivals celebrate the rich harvest, traditional palm-frond weaving keeps historic craftsmanship alive, and serving dates with warm Arabic coffee remains the quintessential Emirati welcome. ☕🤝
From heavy bunches of ripening fruit to palm fronds swaying in the breeze, every grove tells a story of a people who learned to flourish alongside the land. 🌅✨ (Image credit: AI-generated)

Why are camels known as the “ships of the desert” in the UAE? 🐪✨ For centuries, camels have been at the heart of life in the Arabian Desert. As trusted companions of Bedouin communities, they carried travellers across vast sands, connected oases, and made trade and daily survival possible. The nostalgic chiming of camel bells echoing across the shifting dunes still reflects a timeless bond between people and their environment. 🔔🌾
While times have changed, this heritage remains a proud part of the UAE’s identity. Today, traditional events like camel racing, camel festivals, and camel beauty contests celebrate this enduring connection, beautifully bridging the past with the present. 🏆🌴
From an essential companion in the desert to a symbol of cultural pride, camels continue to tell the story of the UAE—one of resilience, harmony with nature, and traditions cherished through generations.

With the continued development of UAE–Oman cross-border transport infrastructure, Sohar Port in northern Oman is steadily strengthening its role as a key logistics hub.
As a key node on the first cross-border rail link connecting the two nations, the Sohar freight station project of the Hafeet Railway, undertaken by POWERCHINA, has now passed the halfway mark. Construction is advancing smoothly, with rail works and earthworks for the container yard moving forward in parallel with supporting facilities.
Once completed, the project is expected to significantly enhance logistics efficiency across the Gulf region, improve regional connectivity, and further support economic integration.

The Consulate General of China in Dubai, together with the Confucius Institute at the University of Dubai, POWERCHINA, and Yuxiangyuan Traditional Culture Pavilion, recently hosted a Dragon Boat Festival cultural event in Dubai.
Local university students and POWERCHINA employees joined a variety of hands-on activities, including making zongzi, crafting sachets, weaving five-color bracelets, experiencing the traditional herbal water washing ritual, enjoying a tea ceremony, and trying on Hanfu. The event was filled with laughter and lively exchanges as participants experienced Chinese traditions firsthand.
For POWERCHINA, the celebration was more than a festive gathering. As we help advance green development across the UAE, cultural events like these create opportunities for people-to-people connections, fostering mutual understanding and strengthening the friendship between China and the UAE.
