Site Visit is the process of Tendering process. After buying a Tender Document the Quantity Surveyor /Engineer or Estimator goes through the document and familiarize himself with the document. And when he is on site if they are areas that are not clear he/she can ask question to clear the grey areas.

Who Should Attend

It depends with the scope, but mostly the most important person who should attend the Site Visit is the person who is going to price the Bill of Quantity (works). Sending unqualified and inexperienced person for a site visit is a recipe of failing to price the Tender.

Information Gains

• Site visits pose a valuable source of information that you may not get from the tender documents.
• They present an opportunity to get detailed information from people who are knowledgeable about the site.

Accurate Pricing

What is meant by BOQ?

Bills of Quantities (BoQ) is one of systematic ways applied in the construction industry in which its primary function is to record items of works for tendering purposes and to create a fair agreement among the parties involved for contracting purpose
The bill of quantities is rather like a shopping list, which the tenderer then completes by inserting the prices that will be charged against each item. Most of these items will be measured as either “rates” or “prices per unit.”
The major advantages of a bill of quantities are consistency and a straightforward process for checking and comparing tenders.
Another advantage for the industry as a whole is that the bill of quantities is only prepared once, rather than by each tenderer, who must, of course, price it. So there is no abortive work effort by unsuccessful tenderers.
The profession that concentrates on the billing and measurement function is the quantity surveyor, or ‘QS.’
Quantity surveyors are usually employed in the building industry to take-off quantities, whereas those civil engineers who still have the skill base generally take off their own quantities. ‘Taking off’ is the term used for abstracting quantities and inserting them against the relevant item in the bill of quantities.
