Police have detained a security guard who was on duty at Chaminuka Resort when its chief executive officer (CEO), Stelios Sardinis, was murdered during an aggravated robbery.
Mr. Sardinis, 64, died after being assaulted by unknown assailants who broke into his residence at Chaminuka Lodge in Chisamba District in the early hours of today.
The incident occurred between 01:00 and 01:15 hours.
Police public relations officer Godfrey Chilabi said officers received a report from a 52‑year‑old male employee of Chaminuka Resort that intruders had broken into Mr. Sardinis’ residence and attacked him.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the assailants, armed with offensive weapons yet to be identified, forced their way in through the main glass door before breaking into the bedroom.
“The suspects allegedly assaulted Mr Sardinis and stole a safe containing documents, valuables, and an undisclosed amount of money,” Mr Chilabi said.
Mr Sardinis sustained serious injuries and was rushed by resort staff to CFB Medical Centre in Lusaka, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Mr Chilabi said the value of the stolen property has not yet been established.Police have since visited and processed the crime scene and launched investigations.
He appealed to anyone with information that may assist the inquiry to report to the Service.
