A flat gate motor battery can lead to more than just an inconvenience.
In this case, the client’s power was off for more than four days. During the outage, the gate motor continued to be used, gradually draining the backup battery until it reached zero charge.
Once a battery has been without power for a prolonged period of time, it may become damaged and no longer charge correctly. Because this battery could not reach a full charge, the charger on the gate motor’s PC board continued trying to charge it. This caused the charger to overheat and eventually become damaged as well.
What started as a drained battery resulted in additional damage to the gate motor system.
This is one of the reasons we recommend regular gate motor maintenance checks. A professional service allows us to check the condition of the battery, charging system, motor and other important components before a small issue develops into a more expensive repair.
If your property experiences an extended power outage, try to limit unnecessary gate motor use and have the battery checked if you notice any changes in the motor’s performance afterwards.
Regular maintenance can help identify weakening batteries early and keep your gate motor reliable when you need it most.
