The Role
This is a full-time, on-site Trainee position based in Sandton, Gauteng. You'll support the design, installation, and maintenance of home and industrial automation systems under the guidance of our experienced team, working alongside senior technicians, project managers, and partners such as architects and builders.
No prior automation experience is required but you should bring basic knowledge of hand tools and an electronics background. Beyond that, what matters most is a genuine interest in the tech, a practical mindset, and a willingness to learn. We'll teach you the automation side.
What You'll Do
Assist senior technicians with equipment setup, wiring, and system configuration on client sites
Help test and troubleshoot home and industrial automation systems โ lighting, switches, curtains, cameras, security, and more
Learn to use our control interfaces and remote monitoring tools
Help document project requirements and follow technical instructions
Connect systems to WiFi and smart-home networks and confirm everything works before we leave site
Keep each job site clean, safe, and professional, and support the team in showing clients the basics of their new system
Requirements
Basic knowledge of hand tools and an electronics background
Foundational technical aptitude and a genuine interest in automation, electrical systems, or audio-visual technologies
Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to follow technical procedures and safety guidelines
Effective communication and teamwork โ able to work well with colleagues, clients, and external partners
Able to work on-site, perform hands-on physical tasks, and adhere to safety and quality standards
Confident using a smartphone and apps (you'll configure systems this way)
Willing to travel to client sites across South Africa
Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent; based in or able to commute to Sandton
Motivation to learn, adapt to new technologies, and build a career in home and industrial automation
Nice to Have
Basic understanding of IT or networking concepts (hardware setup, connectivity, system configuration)
A relevant qualification or ongoing studies in engineering, electronics, IT, or a related field
A valid driver's licence and/or own transport
Any exposure to electrical, handyman, IT/networking, or CCTV work
Familiarity with smart device protocols (WiFi, Zigbee, Z-Wave, Bluetooth)
