As the colder weather settles in, many households are turning to gas heaters, fireplaces, and alternative heating methods to stay warm. While these can be very effective, they also increase the risk of fires and dangerous fumes if not used correctly.
Here are a few important reminders to help keep your family safe this winter:

β’ Fresh air is essential. Always allow some airflow into the room when using a gas heater. Even a slightly open window can make a big difference.
β’ Inspect your equipment regularly. Check gas hoses, connections, and fittings for signs of wear and tear, and have your heater serviced if anything looks damaged.
β’ Position gas cylinders correctly. Cylinders should remain upright and be stored in a cool area with good ventilation.
β’ Keep heaters stable and clear of obstacles. Avoid placing them where they can be bumped over or where children and pets frequently play.
β’ Never drape clothing, blankets, or towels over a heater to dry.
