🏠 Why Do We Use Bolts in Timber Roof Trusses?

When constructing a timber roof according to SANS requirements, the connections between truss members must be properly secured and designed to carry the loads imposed on the roof.

Bolts help pull the timber members tightly together, creating strong, secure joints and reducing unwanted movement at the connections. SANS 10400-L provides for nailed and bolted trusses, with specified bolt sizes, positioning and truss configurations.

It’s not simply about making the roof “stronger” — the correct timber size, bolt diameter, number and positioning, bracing and tie-downs all form part of the structural system.
