🌬️ How do architects design for windy weather?

Strong winds aren't something you simply deal with once the building is finished. They need to be considered while the building is still an idea on paper.

We respond to wind by looking at things like:

🏠 Building orientation: positioning the building to work with prevailing wind conditions.

📐 Building shape: the form and height of a building can influence how wind moves around it.

🪟 Windows & openings: their size and placement can affect both wind pressure and natural ventilation.

🌿 Outdoor spaces: patios, courtyards and entrances can be positioned or sheltered to make them more comfortable.

🔨 Structural design & materials: the building needs to be designed to safely handle the forces created by wind.

The goal is to understand the wind's effects and design according, so that a builing does not just look good, but performs as it should.
