Community Livestock Workers - young South Africans, trained and equipped to be the local first responders for the cattle that hold rural economies together. The herds Abo Gogo have raised. The animals that pay school fees.

The livestock that feeds entire homesteads.
When CLW arrives in a community:

✅ A sick animal gets treatment before it becomes a loss
✅ A herd gets vaccinated on schedule, not eventually
✅ A smallholder farmer gets trusted, on-the-ground advice from someone who speaks their language and lives in their world
✅ A young person earns a dignified income doing work that matters - without leaving home to find it

This is what changes when CLW runs in your district. Healthier herds. Stronger rural economies. A generation of young people anchored in their communities, building up where they are instead of leaving for the cities.

CLW is delivered through the Afrigrow Development Institute, aligned to DSD priorities, and supported by Vodacom rural connectivity at our training centres.

This is not a programme that ends at certification. It's a programme that begins there.

Meet Alice Shange from Doornkop, now based in Stanger.

When Alice joined our CLW Programme, she had no farming experience. Today, she's transformed that curiosity into real knowledge. She's learned that cattle provide everything from shampoo to medicine, and she's now confidently treating and vaccinating her own goats at home.

Watch Alice share her journey and her message to others in the province: be patient, be willing to learn, and watch your life improve.

This is what the CLW Programme makes possible.

🎙️ "Life has placed me here, and I have learned to love it."

Before joining the CLW Programme, uLetha Ngcobo had no background in agriculture. No interest in animal production. No connection to livestock farming.

She is from Mandeni, under the chieftaincy kaNgcobo in the KwaDukuza district of KwaZulu-Natal.

Today, she is a Community Livestock Worker trainee — learning the full livestock value chain, from how an animal grows to how it reaches the market.

But the thing she fell in love with most was not the animals.
It was the discovery that this programme is also about personal finance, business planning, and building something of her own.

And here's what makes uLetha's story even more remarkable:

Her training centre has no reliable internet access. So her cohort figured it out themselves, internet cafés, shared data, TikTok videos downloaded and passed around to show up prepared.

And they still showed up prepared. Every time.

Letha is one of 1,620. Across 21 centres. In 10 districts of KZN.
This is not a statistic. This is a structural shift. 💚

🌱 Introducing the Community Livestock Workers of KwaZulu-Natal!

Afrigrow Agriholdings, in partnership with the UIF Labour Activation Programme, is training 1,620 young South Africans across 21 centres in 10 districts of KwaZulu-Natal. The knowledge they are gaining extends well beyond animal health.

The Community Livestock Worker (CLW) Programme includes:

🐄 A comprehensive understanding of the livestock production value chain — from animal growth to market delivery

💰 Personal finance and money management skills

📋 Business planning and entrepreneurship training

🎤 Presentation skills and peer-to-peer learning opportunities

These trainees are not simply passive learners in a classroom.

They conduct independent research, prepare and deliver their own presentations, and teach one another. This initiative is developing them into self-sufficient agricultural practitioners — individuals who are ready to work, lead, and eventually own their ventures.

1,620 trainees across KwaZulu-Natal are currently engaged in this transformative program.

This is what structural change looks like on the ground. 🇿🇦

South Africa needs aggressive economic recovery plan, Moshe Molefe, Afrigrow's Chairman addressed EU bankers on Zoom about the BEEFSA Project as part of a Catalystic Project. "How do you measure a catalystic project, investors asked?". It must withstand national disaster, attract foreign direct investment, earn in foreign exchange, make large scale impact that absorb thousands of beef producers, it must positively disrupt the market currently controlled by monopoly groups, and finally, contribute to GDP in measurablr terms, not simply by inference, Moshe Molefe said to European Equity Investors based in London and Monaco.
