Resilience through diversity.

Its a simple principle, but when truly considered it gives so much insight into our current global and local challenges on personal and collective scales.

Stay diverse, resist the monoculture, and be adaptable.

Living, healthy water brings vibrancy, calm and peace to our minds. I believe its a deep-seated human physio-psychological response to being around the most important element for human survival.

Allow the nervous system to unwind. Find a body of moving water and sit with it for a time.

We are entering an era of increased demand for water, heightened seasonal rainfall variability and radical water insecurity.

What effect could rainwater harvesting at the household level have on our shared collective capacity?

Decentralized water storage solutions can not only increase your individual resilience, but also reduce the demand on our already overwhelmed municipal systems.

This pool conversion we did feels like a pool party waiting to happen.

Without the itchy, dry skin and burning eyes of pool parties of our youth.

Now you can play Marco Pollo without your eyes tearing up as you escape the blind person.

This coastal fynbos garden is growing in so beautifully. What was once a monoculture lawn is now thriving as a locally indigenous biodiversity haven, providing colour, texture, habitat and food for pollinators.

Here are 3 practical things I love about our Ecopools technolgy:

1. Tried and tested for South African conditions- our plumbing, planting and building techniques have been developed over years to be appropriate for our local climate, biology and construction methodologies.

2. Flexible design elements- Our underlying technology is able to be adapted to a wide range of contexts- from naturalistic swim ponds, to modern rectilinear designs with distinct filtration systems, we can meet our clients where their dreams and preferences lie.

3. Low maintenance, healthy water and year round interest- Our pools provide clients with naturally filtered, clear water without the headache of the chemical management needs of a 'conventional' pool. In winter our pools still create a point of interest in a garden instead of something that is only enjoyed a couple of months a year.

Which of the above pools is your favorite?

Land management work like chipping, clearing and maintaining trees is always hard to quantify. Each site is different, and estimates vary depending on material types, ages, and desired end states.

This is why for any of our clearing related work we will typically quote an estimated number of days or hours and keep our clients abreast of progress as we're busy.

Having done this for 10 years, we pride ourselves on focusing on efficiency, safety, communication and neatness.

Our value is our experience, teamwork and passion, not our price.

We love the process.

Three things you can expect in our future in the Garden Route:

1. More floods- climate scientists predict increasing likelihood of extreme weather events like we saw this year- huge amounts of rain in a short period and severe winds.

2. More drought- in the short term, we're expecting an intense drought as our local effect of the largest el Nino event in documented history, as well as ongoing drought/deluge cycles into the future.

3. More fire- increasing temperatures, drying landscapes and the prevalence of invasive vegetation paints a scary picture for wildfires in the future. Its a matter of time before we see devastating fires in the region again.

The societal, financial and ecological costs of these events are going to be massive.

Future proof your property through intelligent land and water management strategies that address these three core risks.
