EFTR® Original Slow Hands Technique
Sometimes, the most powerful thing you can do is slow down.
In EFTR®, the work begins long before we start releasing tissue.
My original Slow Hands Technique is about creating a sense of safety through gentle, intentional touch.
By slowing down, I give the horse’s sensory system time to receive and process the information coming from my hands.
I am listening to the horse through touch — feeling the quality of the superficial tissues, noticing areas of restriction or reduced tissue glide, and observing how the horse responds.
This gentle contact also supports interoception — the horse’s awareness of sensations within its own body — and encourages a shift towards a more relaxed state of the nervous system.
Working along the superficial dorsal line, which is also associated with the pathway of the Bladder Meridian in traditional Chinese medicine, gives me valuable information about areas I may want to revisit later in the treatment.
But first, we slow down.
We listen.
We allow the horse time to respond.
Because before we ask the body to change, we want to create the conditions in which the horse can feel safe enough to let go.
This is where EFTR® begins.
