Preserving a piece of Woodstock, one careful step at a time.
On the corner of Albert Road and Essex Street, scaffolding surrounds a heritage canopy – not to replace it, but to protect it while we build around it.
The Essex is a new mixed-use residential development that retains an existing heritage structure at street level, anchoring 90 new residential units within Woodstock's established streetscape. It's an approach we return to often – understanding what gives a building its character and preserving the city's heritage before deciding how to build around it.
The scale and façade above are carefully modulated to connect with the surrounding residential fabric, so the retained structure and the new addition sit in dialogue rather than competition. It's a conversation between eras that reflects Woodstock's own evolving identity – old and new, held together rather than apart.
