➡️ After | Garden Bed Rehab + Hardscape Upgrade 🌿

This one was all about cleaning things up and letting the landscape breathe.
We removed a few trees that were making the space feel cluttered and replaced them with plumbago to nicely fill in the front edge and soften the look.

Dollar w**d was fully removed from the garden beds by digging out the rhizomes (no shortcuts there).

Edging details matter — we set the edging with paver gravel and caulked it for long-lasting, clean lines that won’t shift over time.

Small details, big difference.

Native & pollinator-friendly landscape install 🌱

Featuring a thoughtful mix of Florida natives and proven pollinator plants, chosen for beauty, resilience, and ecological value. Once full grown will have a multiple layer look.

Florida natives:
• Walter’s viburnum – natural screening, seasonal blooms, bird-feeding berries
• Dwarf Yaupon holly – evergreen structure, extremely drought tolerant. Also good for bird feeding.
• Coreopsis – Florida’s state wildflower, bright color with minimal input
• Native salvia varieties – long bloom time and strong pollinator support
•Muhly grass – iconic Florida native with soft texture and pink fall blooms, extremely drought tolerant

Pollinator favorites:
• Butterfly bush – high butterfly attraction
• Phlox pintas – continuous blooms and reliable nectar source
• Marigolds – great companion plant that attracts beneficial insects

✔️ Low maintenance
✔️ Florida-adapted plant choices
✔️ Supports butterflies, bees, and birds

Landscaping that works with nature instead of against it.

Chemical-free and built to thrive. 🌎🌱

This garden bed was all about the details.

Edging is one of those things people don’t always consciously notice right away, but it makes a huge difference. We focus on the unseen work too—adding paver gravel beneath the edging to prevent settling and sinking, then taking the time to level everything properly so it stays clean and crisp.

We also came across quite a bit of coontie on this project and made sure to save it. If anyone is looking for coontie, let us know—we have plenty available. It’s an important native plant and a host for the endangered Atala butterfly, so preserving it was a must. 🦋

Heading into winter, remember this: the things that look a little rough or “ugly” in the garden often turn out to be the most beautiful when you notice what they attract. Leaving dead w**ds and dried seed heads gives birds food, shelter, and a place to thrive when they need it most.

Check out our latest blog to learn about what you can plant in central Florida to support and attract migratory birds: https://w**dwisegardens.com/the-beautiful-side-of-ugly-gardens-in-winter/

🌿 Central Florida homeowners… be honest:

Are you STILL mowing, watering, fertilizing, and spraying a half-brown St. Augustine lawn every summer… or are you ready to be done forever? 😅

Lately our phones won’t stop ringing with the same question:

“Can you keep my lawn looking great without all the chemicals?”

The answer? YES — and we can do way better than just “great.”

The smartest move we’ve found (and the one more and more of your neighbors are making) is ditching grass completely for Perennial Peanut.

The result?

• Almost never mow (0–3 times a YEAR)
• No fertilizer, no pesticides, no guilt
• 70–90% less water
• Bright green year-round + yellow flowers all summer
• Saves $1,700–$2,900 PER YEAR after it’s established

Sounds too good to be true… right? 👀
We just wrote the full breakdown (with real numbers and photos) here:

Drop a comment and tell me which camp you’re in:
✅ “I’m ready to ditch grass forever!”
❌ “No way, I’m keeping my grass because _____”
🤔 “I’m curious but I have questions…”

(And yes, we answer every single objection in the article 😉)

Did some rehab on the Edible Earth ScapesBeach Oasis install. So far, it’s held up beautifully with almost no attention. The owners left for the summer, and without monthly maintenance it went full jungle on us.
The more we hit it with the organic spray, though, the better we suppress growth where we don’t want it. The combo of native + edible plants thrives even on neglect—almost too well—but we’ve got it under control

Wisely done

Starting a new bed? Lay down cardboard over the grass or w**ds, overlapping the edges. Mow or cut the grass low first.

Wet the cardboard, cover with soil or mulch, and cut holes to plant through. The cardboard smothers w**ds and eventually turns into compost. It’s an easy way to skip digging.
