Sometimes a room comes together even though you have so many competing elements pulling you in so many directions. On this project, we had a color palette that the client really wanted to use. We decided on the rug first, then the fabrics, then the painting. For me, it is the art that brings all the elements together.

Tone on Tone on Tone on Texture. That seems to be my mantra for creating calm environments. I love the subtlety of combining textures within the same color palette. It allows you to experience the textures slowly and absorb their differences.

The use of natural light also plays a big part in the design of this bathroom. Our client wanted her bathroom to feel light, bright, and airy and we loved the idea of a large steel window in the space, but needed privacy since this window is on the front of the house. An electric switchable smart glass installed in this steel window design that allows for the panes of glass to switch from clear to frosted glass was the perfect solution to this puzzle.

Fall is here (although it doesn’t feel like it in Austin), and I am dreaming about this Moonlight Basin retreat we did for our incredible clients a few years ago. The layered natural textiles, warm color palette, and the fireplace and view make this living room the optimal place to be on a cozy fall day.

Crafting a living room is an art that balances aesthetic appeal with everyday comfort. Below are the top three design choices I focus on when creating a cozy space for my clients.

🔥 Fireplace Design: A well-designed fireplace serves as the heart of the room, offering both warmth and a strong architectural focal point. It’s about more than heat; it’s about creating a sense of place.

🛋 Thoughtful Seating: The best seating isn’t just stylish; it supports the flow of conversation and provides a haven for relaxation. Each piece is chosen for its comfort and ability to enhance the room’s overall harmony.

🧶 Layered Textures: I use textiles strategically. By layering textures like soft throws and plush pillows, I add depth and coziness to the design without overwhelming the space.

When designing primary baths, I always prioritize creating a sanctuary for my clients. Taking a bath has become a daily evening ritual for me, where I find peace and the world slows down. Keeping this in mind, my goal is to create an environment where my client can escape from the world and find peace.

Working with clients who travel is one of my favorite things. It’s inspiring to curate and add special treasures from their travels into their living spaces. Libraries make the best rooms to showcase these treasures by layering books with the items to create an interesting space. Styling day is my favorite day because I get to hear the stories behind the objects from the client. I love creating spaces where my clients can showcase and relive their travel memories right in their own homes.
