Today we we're called to do some electrical work at a local business. We discovered when we opened the main electrical panel that the previous installer never tightened one of the lugs for the power coming into the main breaker. This situation is what we call a ticking time bomb. To the untrained eye it just looks like you could possibly tighten the lug and move on. But if you look closer you can see the heat damage caused by the loose connection. Over time these heat Cycles cause components to fail and make it unsafe to use. You can see the discoloration on the aluminum, the wire, and the area around the circuit breaker. This situation would have caused the business to lose one of their three phases which would cause them to have to shut down. We attempted to find a replacement main breaker but there were none available . Replacing the electrical panel was the right thing to do in this situation. It's very important to always make sure electric connections are tight and torqued to the proper torque. This is a great example of what happens when you don't do it right the first time. My crew does a great job at inspecting things before we start adding new circuits. When we are attaching new circuits to old electrical equipment, we always want to make sure that all the current connections are healthy and secure. We always get our customers involved when we find issues like this so they know exactly why we have to address things such as this. Happy customer! Great job Nate and Dylan!
