While I was out and about, I noticed this beauty beginning to bloom around the ranch.

Twoleaf Senna (Senna roemeriana) is named for German geologist Ferdinand Roemer who collected specimens in Texas between 1845–47. It is a native perennial shrub of Texas and is common in open fields and woodlands. The plant's common name comes from its characteristic two-leaflet leaves, a feature unique among the many-leaflet senna species

Twoleaf Senna is toxic to livestock, particularly goats and horses. It can cause symptoms such as diarrhea, weakness, dark urine, and potentially death if consumed in large quantities.

What’s this soft purplish-brown cloud growing along the roads near Wildflower Ranch? It’s Purple Lovegrass!

Wildflower of the Week - Prairie Coneflower or Ratibida columnifera

This wildflower started blooming out at Wildflower Ranch this week. This flower is a perennial that blooms in the summer. If you crush the petals, you may smell an aroma similar to licorice. This wildflower loves to grow in dry, open spaces… despite all of the rain we’ve gotten recently!
