Temperatures are dropping, so here’s a good refresher on some techniques that will lead to successful cold weather concreting:
❄️ If ambient temperatures are forecast to drop below 5° C within 24 hours, concrete must be protected with insulating materials - first 3 days for foundations and first 7 days for flatwork exposed to freeze-thaw cycling.
❄️ The insulation should be removed during the day if ambient temperatures are expected to be above 5° C and re-applied at night if temperatures are expected to fall below 5° C.
❄️ Concrete flatwork must be allowed to air-dry after the initial cure period for at least a month before exposure to de-icing chemicals.
