Why is it important to come up with garden sketches? Here are some 3 reasons why as a garden designer you need to come up with some form of sketch for the gardens you design.

1. It helps you and your client have an idea of what the potential garden will look like once it's set.

2. It saves you so much time when it's time to plant because you know what goes where.

3. You are able to carefully and strategically select the plants you will use where based on growth needs, colour coding, their uses etc

Check out the original state of the garden in slide 2.
You can do sketches or 3D images for a garden before creating it. Of course 3D images take more time and are more expensive compared to sketches. It depends on what you want really.

Plant lovers, have you thought of investing in some bromeliads if you already don't have some!!

Look how beautiful these plants are 🥺. Some love shade and others will thrive and produce lots of colour with some sun. They come in various colours and patterns on their leaves and these beauties can grow as air plants (In other words, place them on the bark of trees and they will be just fine). If you are growing them in pots, make sure to get the potting mix right. Some bromeliads even grow on rocks (The Saxicolous species).

A pineapple plant is the only bromeliad that produces edible fruits (I know, I was blown away when I found out pineapples are part of the bromeliad family).

Day 6 of Green Christmas Ideas 🌲. Amazonian Elephant Ear/ Alocasia Amazonica, also known as Alocasia Polly.

Hailing from Southeast Asia, the Amazonian Elephant Ear plant makes a great gift because of it's elaborate, striking and beautiful tropical foliage defined by deep green leaves, which are accentuated by whitish or light green veins. The leaves are roughly serrated, and in some cases, the leaf color appears as an almost purple-green. The underneath of the leaves are actually dark purple which makes it even more beautiful 🙂.

The plant thrives in partial shade or bright indirect light and loose potting mix.

Gracing our beautiful Monday is the Beautiful Bunny Ear Cactus. Also known as angel's wings cactus or Polka dot cactus. This Cactus is beautiful because instead of bearing clearly visible thorns/spikes, it has glochids which are actually hundreds of small spines that appear like soft pads. Because they are small, these can easily dislodge in the skin and cause an irritation thus when handling this pretty plant, you need to use gloves.

🌞 Just like many cacti, this will thrive with atleast 6 hours of bright, direct sun and if growing these indoors, place it in the sunniest part of the house.

💦 Water when the soil is fully dry.

🌱 Fast draining soil. A cacti or succulent potting mix will do great.

Baby Marble Queen Pothos. Though very gorgeous, This one is not very beginner friendly like it's other counterparts like the golden Pothos. It's very particular about its growth conditions. Ignore its growth needs and you will have browning leaves, rot and eventually death 🥺.
Marble Queen Pothos will thrive in total shaded spots outdoors and in bright indirect light indoors to keep its variegation. They love humidity so it will help to spray the leaves with water weekly or grow them in humid spots like kitchens and bathrooms.

This jade tree got it's first big chop a few months ago and it's starting to put on new leaves.
Pruning comes with wonderful after results such as healthier growth and thicker/bushier plants and we can't wait for this little tree to reach its full potential. Happy new month nature lovers 🙂.

Buying a plant is one thing. Keeping it alive is another thing all together and whether your plants stay alive or die depend on a few factors;

🪴 The health of the plant when you first get it. If the plants are already sick or pest infested, you put all your other plant collection at risk.

🪴 Potting mix you give your plant. This will determine how big and healthy your plants can get. Poor potting mix will stunt the growth of your plant.

🪴 The pot you give your plant. There are decorative pots (Do not have drainage holes) and then there are pots meant for planting (Have drainage holes).

🪴 Conditions you put your plants in. Different plants require different growth conditions and there is a plant for almost every condition.

🪴 Maintenance. Just like human beings and pets, Plants need attention too to remain healthy and beautiful. However, different plants require different amounts of attention.

NB: It helps to invest in plants that do well in your growing conditions, lifestyle and schedule. Otherwise, you may think live plants are not for you. There is a plant for everyone.

Most houseplants need this kind of setting next to a window or door that lets in a good amount of sunlight. This is what is termed as filtered sun. Most Large Plants love this a lot (Rubber trees, monsteras and figs will thank you for this). However, there are some plants that are able to tolerate being away from Windows and doors in areas that receive bright indirect light and others can even tolerate low light.
