Not Every Pool Project Is Created Equal...

Twenty years ago, we installed this customer's above-ground pool. Over the years, it became more than just a pool—it became a place where children grew up, grandchildren made memories, and summers were enjoyed together.

When she called and asked us to replace it, we said yes.
Truthfully, above-ground pool replacements like this are some of the most difficult projects we take on, and there are many reasons why most companies avoid them.

This wasn't just an oval pool—one of the most structurally complex above-ground pools to install—it was completely surrounded by a deck built tightly around the original pool. After 20 years, finding an exact replacement was impossible. Modern pools have different support systems, wider or narrower top rails, larger uprights, and different engineering requirements than pools built decades ago.
What looks simple from the surface quickly becomes a challenge once the project begins.

As we removed the old pool, we discovered that portions of the deck framing had to be modified to accommodate the new structure. Some supports were even encased in concrete, requiring additional demolition and reconstruction just to make the new pool fit safely and correctly.

Could we have seen all of these issues beforehand? Some, yes. All of them? No. That's the reality of replacement projects. Many challenges only reveal themselves once the old pool is removed and the new one is being assembled.

We understand how frustrating that can be for a homeowner. It's frustrating for us too. Nobody wants unexpected costs, extra labor, or changes to the finished appearance.
But here's what matters:
We stand behind our customers.
Even though this project has taken far more time and labor than originally anticipated, we're going back to help trim out and replace deck boards so the finished product looks as good as possible. Not because we have to, but because we care about the people who trust us with their homes.

Sometimes a project isn't about maximizing profit.
Sometimes it's about honoring a customer relationship that has lasted 20 years and making sure the final result is something everyone can be proud of.

Cold temperatures are expected for the rest of this week. Is your hot tub working? If it’s not, make sure you take the proper steps to prevent damage. These tips will help save the hot tub and your bank account.

1. Do NOT drain the hot tub.
This is the worst thing you can do. A large body of water takes much lower temperatures to freeze. If even a small amount of water remains in the plumbing lines, it can still freeze and cause serious damage.

2. If you must drain the hot tub, do this; use a shop vacuum.
Remove the filter and place the hose at the bottom of the hot tub over the suction line. You may need to cover the other suction with your hand, or you’ll get wet.
Make sure the shop vac is set to blow air, not suck water. Blowing air is far more effective because it builds pressure to force water out of the plumbing—through the pump and jets—back into the tub, where it can then be vacuumed out.

3. Vacuum out as much water as possible.
Remove every bit of water you can from the hot tub. Once finished, cover the tub securely with its cover or another protective material to prevent condensation or moisture from re-entering.

4. If you cannot vacuum or blow out the lines:
Go to Home Depot or Lowe’s and purchase:
A 10½-inch, (up to 300-watt) heavy-duty clamp light.
A 60-watt incandescent light bulb
⚠️ Important: LED bulbs will NOT work—they do not produce heat. A 40 to 60-watt incandescent bulb produces enough heat inside the cabinet to help prevent freezing.
Remove the front cabinet panel and position the light inside the equipment area. Make sure the bulb is not touching any part of the hot tub and has at least 6 inches of clearance.
Smaller clamp lights are available if space is limited. Open the cabinet before going to the store to ensure you buy the correct size.

Good Sunday morning! With colder weather approaching, is your hot tub prepared for the chill?

I completed a service yesterday that was beyond my capability to fix on the spot. The hot tub has been sitting for a year and a half, the new owner has been addressing small leaks as he can. He reached out to me about a leak in the pump’s wet end. I’ll need to order just the pump, as the motor appears to be nearly new.

The main purpose of this message is to remind hot tub owners to be proactive. If cold weather is on the way and you're concerned about freeze damage, you should be! If you can't get a technician out quickly, or if you're unable to keep the water moving to prevent freezing, here’s some advice I shared with the customer yesterday:

Take a lamp or light socket with an incandescent light bulb and place it inside the hot tub’s cabinet. Ensure it isn’t a heat lamp or bulb, keep it from touching anything inside the cabinet, then don’t completely replace the panel. Just lean it against the front of the cabinet to retain heat. This will help prevent freezing until you can make the necessary repairs or have a technician come by.

Have you ever paid for something only to regret it later? I know I have, I don't like that feeling. I never thought I would own a retail store, but the twists and turns of life have led me to where I am now: the owner of a couple of companies, all based around the hot tub industry. I've been in the service part of the hot tub industry, delivering and repairing & moving hot tubs, for over 30 years. This year, I opened a retail store in Jasper, Georgia, called trolls hob.
