STEWARDSHIP ADDRESS BY THE OUTGOING CHAIRMAN, STATE INFORMATION CHAPEL, NUJ KOGI STATE COUNCIL

The Presiding Officer, NUJ Kogi State Council,
Members of the State Information Chapel,
Distinguished colleagues,
Ladies and gentlemen.
I warmly welcome you all to this important occasion marking the end of the tenure of this Executive Committee and the election of a new leadership for our dear Chapel.
Today is a moment of reflection, gratitude, and transition. It is an opportunity to account for our stewardship, appreciate the support we received, and set the stage for a smooth transfer of responsibility to the incoming Executive.
When this Executive Committee assumed office, we were guided by a commitment to promote unity, professionalism, welfare, and the growth of the State Information Chapel. We understood that leadership in a professional body such as ours requires sacrifice, patience, and collective responsibility.
ACHIEVEMENTS AND ACTIVITIES
During our tenure, we worked to strengthen the unity and identity of the Chapel. We promoted a culture of collaboration among members and maintained a cordial relationship with the NUJ State Council, government institutions, and other stakeholders.
We encouraged professionalism among members by supporting activities aimed at improving the capacity, visibility, and relevance of Information Officers as communication professionals.
We also initiated and supported programmes that brought members together, enhanced fellowship, and projected the importance of the Chapel within the journalism family.
One of the highlights of our tenure was the deliberate effort to reposition the State Information Chapel as a vibrant professional platform where members could interact, share ideas, and contribute meaningfully to the development of communication practice in Kogi State.
WELFARE AND MEMBERSHIP ENGAGEMENT
Recognising that the strength of any union lies in the welfare and commitment of its members, the Executive made efforts to promote inclusiveness, encourage participation, and respond to members’ concerns within available resources.
We acknowledge that there were areas where more could have been achieved. However, we are proud of the foundation laid and the goodwill generated during our tenure.
FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY AND HANDOVER
On financial matters, the Executive has remained committed to transparency and accountability in the management of the Chapel’s resources.
All financial transactions undertaken during our tenure were properly documented, and relevant records have been maintained by the appropriate officers. These records and supporting documents will be made available during the formal handover process to the incoming Executive for verification and continuity.
CHALLENGES
Like every leadership journey, our tenure was faced with challenges. These included limitations in resources, competing demands, and the realities of managing a professional association. Nevertheless, through teamwork and understanding, we were able to navigate these challenges and achieve meaningful progress.
APPRECIATION
I sincerely appreciate members of the State Information Chapel for the confidence reposed in us and for their cooperation throughout our tenure.
My appreciation also goes to the NUJ Kogi State Council leadership for its guidance and support, as well as all individuals and organisations that contributed in one way or another to the success of our administration.
To my fellow Executive members, I say thank you for your dedication, commitment, and sacrifices. Leadership is a collective responsibility, and the modest achievements recorded today are products of teamwork.
MESSAGE TO THE INCOMING EXECUTIVE
To the incoming Executive, I congratulate you in advance and urge you to lead with humility, fairness, and commitment. Build on the achievements of the past, unite members, prioritise welfare, and continue to uphold the dignity and professionalism of the State Information Chapel.
As we prepare for this transition, I am confident that the Chapel will continue to grow stronger.
Finally, I leave office with gratitude to God and a deep sense of fulfilment that we served to the best of our ability.
