New tool day at Keegan’s Small Engine!

A customer brought in a snowblower where someone had cut into the plastic to get to the choke k**b. We ordered a new choke k**b and carburetor, but while we waited, we got to try out a plastic welding tool.

It melts metal staples into the plastic to help stitch the cracked pieces back together. Kind of like stitches, but for a snowblower.

Pretty cool repair, and another machine closer to being ready for winter.

This John Deere SB14 came in because the blade clutch was super loud.

Instead of replacing the whole thing, I took it apart and found a bad bearing. I pressed in a new one, cleaned everything up, sharpened the blade, and tested it. It mows really good now.

Also, there was a whole ant colony living in the mower. My dad got bit twice trying to get them out. 😂

So now the mower is fixed, the blade is sharp, and the ants have been evicted.

We are looking for a wider trailer.

We’re currently blessed to have a 4x8 trailer, but many riding mowers are wider than 4 feet and do not fit. We’d love to find a wider trailer, even one that needs a little tender loving care to get road worthy again.

If you know of one available or have one sitting around that could use a second life, please reach out!

Sunday was a pretty cool day working on small engines.

Kelly Robins has a Cub Cadet zero turn mower with a Kawasaki engine that needed some service. My trailer isn’t big enough to haul a zero turn yet, so my dad and I made a house call and worked on it right at her place.

We went through the mower, did the service it needed, and made sure everything was running the way it should.

The best part was after we finished. My dad took the first lap to make sure everything felt good, and then I got to drive my first zero turn mower. These things move way different than regular mowers.

Check out the video of me taking it for a spin.

Thanks for trusting me to service your mower and letting me try out a zero turn for the first time!

Hey everyone! 👋 Please share this post!

I’m looking for more mowers, yard machines, and snowblowers to work on!

If your mower needs an oil change or your snowblower still needs fixed before you put it away for the season, I’d love to help.

My dad has also gotten really good at chainsaws. If yours isn’t working he can help.

Let me know and we can get it in the shop! 💪🔧

Quick update from Keegan’s biggest fan and full time shop assistant otherwise known as dad!

Things have been getting a little un-bear-able around here. We’ve been buried in snowblowers and clawing our way through repairs. If yours came through the shop recently, there’s a good chance it’s back on its paws and ready to roar.

And just in time… because it’s about to snow again. Apparently winter isn’t ready to hibernate yet. Good thing we’re ready for it.

Between snowblowers and spring prep, the shop has been buzzing. We’ve got a bunch of mowers tuned up, fired up, and ready to go the second that grass decides to wake up.

We’re especially excited about a couple older John Deere push mowers we’re bringing back from near extinction. They may be vintage, but they’ve still got plenty of grit and grass-eating growl left in them.

The cub is working hard. The engines are roaring. And we’re grateful for everyone who keeps supporting Keegan’s Small Engine.

If you need a snowblower repaired before the flakes fly, a mower for when the melt hits, or just want to bear witness to some small engine magic, don’t paws. Reach out.

Let’s make this season bear-y productive.

Hey guys, there’s another possible storm this weekend. How did everyone snowblowers do?

We’re ready for the snow storm! I will post pictures of my first time running a snowblower tomorrow.

Today we worked on a snowblower for my dad’s friend Mr. Paul.

His father in law tried to start it yesterday and found out it wouldn’t run. It also had two flat tires and he wasn’t sure if it was missing a shear pin or not.

Mr. Paul drove it over this morning and we rebuilt the carburetor, fixed the tire stems that were leaking, and filled the tires back up. After we got it started, we tried to drive it and realized it wasn’t moving.

So we tipped the snowblower up on its nose so we could get to the bottom. I didn’t even know you could do that before today. It leaks a little fuel but it’s a really good way to see what’s going on underneath.

When we looked, we saw the drive belt wasn’t in great shape, but we were able to get it reseated and working again. We told them after the storm we can order a new belt and to just take it easy during this next one.

Then we loaded it back up and drove it over to their house and dropped it off

The last couple days have been really busy in the shop because everyone needs their snowblowers fixed, imagine that.

This morning my dad took one for the team and drove all the way to Lancaster when it was 6 degrees to fix a snowblower that had a carb problem. When he got there he realized it was way worse than we thought.

The neighbor tried to help first and it kinda made it worse 😬
Then we found out the starter was burnt out and we didn’t have one in stock.

My dad called another small engine repair shop near us and they had a used starter and it was perfect timing. We drove there, picked it up, put it on the snowblower, and then took it back to Lancaster.

It was a long cold day but we got it fixed and back to the customer.

Friendly reminder to get your snowblower out today and make sure it runs right.

It takes several days to get in carburetor rebuild kits.
