⚠️ Tick Spotlight: Lone Star Tick (Amblyomma americanum)
The Lone Star tick is recognized by the distinctive white spot found on adult females. These aggressive ticks are common throughout much of the eastern and southeastern United States and can actively seek out hosts, including people, pets, and wildlife.
🔍 Where are they found?
• Wooded areas
• Tall grass
• Leaf litter
• Trails and forest edges
• Yards bordering wooded areas
🦠 Health Risks:
• Alpha-gal syndrome (red meat allergy)
• Ehrlichiosis
• Tularemia
• Heartland virus
• Bourbon virus
• STARI (Southern Tick-Associated Rash Illness)
🚫 Unlike some other tick species, Lone Star ticks are not known to transmit Lyme disease.
