🍂 Town Hall Tuesday: Falling Leaves, Burning Questions

Planning to burn leaves during fall cleanup? Hellam Township permits residents of one- or two-family dwellings to burn yard waste generated on their own property, except where composting is mandatory. Leaves count as yard waste under the ordinance.

Yard-waste fires may burn only from dawn to dusk and must be at least 50 feet from any structure. A responsible adult must stay with the fire until it is completely extinguished and have a connected garden hose or other suitable extinguishing equipment ready. Before starting a permitted controlled burn, notify York County Emergency Services (E911) and check whether a Township burn ban is in effect.
