We completed this slate restoration on a Yale faculty residence in New Haven — removing inappropriate asphalt and restoring the original decorative fish-scale slate with custom copper trim. These copper step flashings at Hillyer House were fabricated and fitted piece by piece to match the historic masonry. The result is watertight, beautiful, and will last 100 years. This is Hillyer House at The Village campus in Hartford — a National Register property originally built as the Hartford Orphan Asylum in 1923. When a tree fell through the slate roof during a storm, our team stepped in for emergency replacement. New slate, new copper gutters, all done to historic preservation standards. Some jobs matter more than others. 🏛️
