We got back to the North Windom Industrial sign to take some pictures tonight. After the uplighting is installed the individual business signs can be mounted. Stay tuned for more!

Our Story

Hi, we’re Kathleen and Brady Haugen, a husband and wife duo who founded and own Small Town Modern (STM)! We’re currently living in Windom, a small town in Southwest Minnesota, with a population of less than 5,000. Kathleen is a Type-A New Yorker with a career in Human Resources and Brady is a creative artist designing commercial grain bins. After our “nine to fives” are done, we spend our free time remodeling our 1960s fixer-upper and building STM. Our journey started back in 2015 after we met on Match.com, moved in together, started our business, got a puppy, and married in 2019. We recognized our shared passion for modern design and minimalistic taste early on, and it’s been a love affair ever since.

Living in a small rural community, you don’t see many modern elements, and we’re trying to change that! We often get asked “What does STM do?” and honestly the answer is “What don’t we do?!” We founded this company to be the one stop shop for all customers no matter the size, scope, or budget of the project. We have done commercial and artistic installs, custom signage, home improvement, business branding, vinyl lettering , unique gifts, furniture, renderings, event coordination, drone footage, and more. We pride ourselves on bringing an idea or concept into reality with a high level of quality and modern style.
