Marianne, 72, has spent nine years in a 408-sq-ft ADU at her daughter’s home in Rhode Island.
“My goal was never to live with my children,” she said. And she doesn’t. She has her own front door, her own kitchen, and her own space, and help is across the yard when she needs it.

📊 73% want to stay in their communities.
📊 1 in 4 older homeowners would consider building an ADU. The top reason is making room for a loved one who needs care.
📊 About half of all adults are caregivers now or expect to be someday.
