A close call while no one was home. š„
Our client was away when they received a call from the fire department. There was a serious problem with the water heater in their apartment.
As you can see in the photos, the electrical components had overheated and burned, scorching the insulation surrounding them. Thankfully, the fire department was alerted in time and the situation was caught before it could become something much more serious.
In a large apartment building, a failure like this is especially concerning. A problem that starts in one unit has the potential to affect many others.
Even more concerning, this is the second water heater weāve seen experience this type of failure just this year.
We removed the damaged water heater, installed a new one, and made sure everything was safe and operating properly before putting it back into service.
Water heaters are easy to forget about when theyāre doing their job, but unusual smells, tripped breakers, popping or crackling sounds, or visible signs of overheating should never be ignored.
Thankfully, this one ended with a new water heater and everyone safe. š
