2008 Honda Civic hybrid with check engine light, IMA and red battery lights on dash. Vehicle had no assist or charging and battery gauge with no bars. Hooked up the scan tool and code scanned, retrieved P0A3F Motor Rotor Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction.
Next step was to check all fuses since the vehicle had been worked on prior to me being called... I found the 10amp fuse for the motor control module blown in the auxiliary fuse box. Cleared the code and it came right back, but the fuse did not blow. The next step was to access the 20 pin connector on the motor control module and check the rotor position circuits for a short to ground, no problem found there. Next was to check the resistance of the 3 position sensor circuits and found all 3 to be within the given specifications and points to an internal fault in the motor control module. Drove back to the shop and grabbed one off the shelf and replaced the faulty one in the vehicle. Reset the position sensor calibration with the scan tool and the Honda Civic hybrid is back on the road again.
