Plant Feature of the Week ~ Grape Ivy
Part of the Vitaceae family, this plant is also called a Kangaroo Ivy. This Cissus Pant comes from the Greek word “Ivy” and has 350 genus around the world. The trick with this plant is that they are not even an ivy, they are more closely related to a grape plant. They love a tropical location and historically have been used in traditional medicine (*not advice).
❌These plants are NOT pet friendly- TOXIC
🪴Growth Style/Patterns:
This plant grows from a woody vine that likes to trail or vine. It would do well from a bookshelf. If climbing, help by pinning or tying the plant up for support. Repot every 2-3 years when root bound. Trim back long grow in the spring.
☀️Light Preference:
Enjoys low to moderate light environments.
🌸🌿Flowers/Foliage:
The Grape Ivy has fleshy, almost succulent type leaves that start with a silver sheen when younger and get darker green with age.
💧Watering:
This plant likes moderate watering. The lower the light exposure the less water it needs. It does like medium humidity making a bathroom a prime setup for this plant.
🌱Propagation: Grape Ivy’s are able to be propped through stem cuttings.
🤎Food/Fertilizer/Soil:
This plant lives its best life in well draining soil, with a good dry out between waterings. Provide a monthly feeding during the growing months.
