Over the last 2 days we said goodbye to an old friend. The Jailhouse Elm in Wellsboro has stood on this site for 3 centuries. Extensive canopy dieback was noticed in the Fall of 2025. Just this spring a large portion broke free from the center of the tree. Samples of diseased plant tissue were taken and sent to laboratories at Penn State for analysis. In the process of gathering samples our Certified Arborists performed a structural analysis on the canopy of the massive American Elm. After evaluating the dead material that still needed to be removed and the position of the live limbs that would remain it was determined this beautiful tree had become a safety hazard for the residents and visitors of the Wellsboro area. Our tree crew performed a flawless removal in a tough location of the Ancient Elm tree. Dincher and Dincher will also be donating a replacement tree for the location as well as assisting in the planting of the new tree of the counties choosing. I am proud to say that all the wood from the tree was salvaged. These wood products will be turned into beautiful furniture and art pieces by local wood artists. As Central Pennsylvania’s tree care expert we care for plenty of these ancient giants. This removal left us all with a heavy heart but the tree will live on in art, furniture, and memories for those lucky enough to witness its majesty.

Recently volunteered a day to The Lewisburg Children’s Museum. Removed a large Pin Oak with severe canopy dieback right over the entrance of the building. Our crew had the tree removed and stump ground out in no time making the facility safer for the families it welcomes. At Dincher and Dincher we always like to take time and give back to the communities that support our business.

Huge American Elm over the Wellsboro Chamber of Commerce Building. Recent wind events caused a large leader to break out of the tree at a decay pocket. Luckily cables that we installed years ago were able to catch the broken stem before it could do harm to structures or pedestrians. Upon closer inspection our highly trained crews recognized that a majority of the canopy over the building was dead. Crews spent the remainder of the day safely removing the dead material and hauling the debris away. Our staff is monitoring the Elm in hopes it can rebound this summer with plans in place to assist its recovery while keeping public safety in mind should the tree need to be removed.

Now accepting applications for all job positions, groundman, bucket operator/climber and CDL driver. We work 4, 10 hour days, Monday-Thursday and Friday is our overtime day. At Dincher and Dincher we believe in giving back to the community. We volunteered this work at the James V Brown Library in Williamsport. Sweet Gum was in decline with large decay pockets forming on the trunk. The stump was ground out leaving the site ready for new lawn or landscape.
