Back to school today! 📚

Spending the day both in the classroom and out in the field at NC State’s Department of Soil Science, completing continuing education for our Septic Contractor license renewal.

Did you know that roughly 50% of North Carolina homes rely on septic systems for wastewater treatment and disposal?

For LDIG, maintaining our septic credentials is about much more than another license. So many of the properties we design and build on have septic systems, and understanding how those systems work—and how our grading, drainage, pools, hardscapes, landscaping, and construction activities can affect them—is critical.

Continuing education helps us make better decisions in the field, protect our clients’ properties, and make sure the beautiful spaces we build work with the infrastructure beneath them.

There’s always more to learn. 🌱

Today, we pause to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, the families forever changed, and the first responders who showed incredible courage when it mattered most.

25 years later, we still remember the heartbreak, the sacrifice, and the way people came together to support one another.

May we continue to carry forward that same sense of kindness, gratitude, and unity.

From all of us at LDIG, we remember and honor those we lost.

Landscaping and outdoor living design get used like they mean the same thing. They don't.

Landscaping is about how your yard looks: the lawn, the beds, the mulch. Outdoor living design is about how you actually use the space: the patio, the fire feature, the lighting, all planned together instead of added on one piece at a time.

Skip that planning step and you usually end up paying for it twice. Drainage gets missed. Features feel disconnected. Water finds the low spot, and it's usually your patio.

If you're in Pinehurst, Southern Pines, or anywhere in the Sandhills and your yard has grown into a mix of separate projects, it might be time to look at the whole space instead of the next single fix.

A nice underutilized native shrub!

Tick pressure in North Carolina builds up fast along yard borders. This native shrub pulls double duty as a border plant and a deterrent most gardeners never think to use there.
