George Stinney, Jr.

George Stinney, Jr. George Stinney, Jr. was 14 years old when executed by the State of South Carolina. I am speaking of the George Stinney, Jr.

In 1944 a crime happened that changed the lives of three families and the town of Alcohu, SC. case that is being reviewed by Judge Carmen Mullen as we speak. The bodies of two pre-teen girls were found beaten to death. Betty June Binnicker 11 and Mary Emma Thames 7. George was a part of the search party and had mentioned to a by stander that he had seen the girls earlier that day. Immediately he was taken into custody and arrested. His Father George Stinney was fired from his job at the lumber mill and the family was chased out of town because of threats of lynching and death. There was no evidence and his attorney was a simple tax lawyer. His trial lasted less than two hours in a Court House with around 1000 white people. It took less than ten minutes for a Jury to sentence him to death. His attorney did not even file an appeal and within 83 days George was executed. George was only 95 lbs and 5' tall so in order to make him fit in the electric chair, they had to stack him up on books. This was a horrible injustice to George and the Stinney family .
