Thinking about buying Barberry or Burning Bush to add color to your landscape? Think again! The damage these plants do to our natural ecosystems is not worth the color. Not to mention that Barberry provides protection for rodents who carry ticks with Lyme.
Replace that color with plants such as Itea, High bush Blueberries, Ninebark and Lindera (Spicebush).

They AREN’T Marsh Marigolds. Or innocent buttercups. Lesser Celandine is a noxious w**d. Get rid of it or you will regret it!

Lesser celandine quickly spreads and covers the ground. The roots are tuberous, and this plant spreads by seed, too.

Fall is for planting, and local garden centers will have lots of perennial offerings to tempt you. Sadly, it's been dryer than dry lately. Let the lack of rain inspire instead of discourage: Check out this great article about drought tolerant perennials.

Look for plants that have fine/lacy foliage, succulent/thick foliage and hairy/fuzzy foliage. These leaf types are great indicators that a plant is a water sipper rather than a guzzler.
